bluesman345
I have an '04 Korean Epi '56 Gold Top. It came stock with P-90's (OEM by Kent Armstrong). They growled and snarled and were very lively. Unfortunately, the venue that I play in (church) has a lot of lights and other things that caused unbearable interference and hum. My tech suggested DiMarzio Virtual P-90's - he claimed they nailed the Gibson P-90 sound. They are P-90 voiced side-by-side humbuckers. He installed a pair and I love 'em. mrw1960
[ Welcome to the forum. I'm not sure what you are actually asking' date=' since you already enjoy P90's. I purchased a Epi Wildkat with P90's and have no intentions of ever selling the guitar. I knew nothing about P90's and to be honest, it took awhile for them to grow on me. The advantage of the Wildkat is the size of the guitar and the weight. The size is best described as somewhere in between a LP and a Casino. The weight is about 8 lbs. It comes with a Bigsby, but it's a feature I don't use and really have no use for. I know that may not be a whole lot of help, but the Wildkat is my recommendation and I'm sure you will hear from a few others here. As for low end Gibson, I would stick with mid to higher end Epi. Now if you were looking at mid to upper range Gibson, that would change my view. [/quote] I aquired a Wildkat in Nov,2009. It took me awhile to tweak the knobs and get the tone I wanted through my BC 30. Since I did a Cap Clip Mod, and Tube swap my Kat sounds AMAZING. The Master Volume knob in conjunction with the others can create some Vintage, or with volume up some Blazing tones. Its also a really SWEET looker. Everyone who has seen it are very impressed. I have thought of swapping to a different P-90. I am not sure. I was told that the chrome pup covers are one reason for some of the feedback, and plastic is better. I don't gig so I do not have to impress anyone. The Kat is the way to go IMHO..

Caolan96
i love my epi '56 goldtop les paul. though im getting a little bored of the P-90's now. Theyre beautiful on clean, but i think im going to swap them out for mini humbuckers as H-B's suit my playing style more. If you want a P-90 equipped guitar, go for the '56 Goldtop, its an amazing guitar for the price. Regards Caolan.
P90Custom
P90Custom here. Recently I was lucky enough to purchase a new black LP Custom Classic, with creme P90's. I fell in love with the sound of them but noticed the neck pup did not shine through like the bridge pup did. Under distortion the neck pup just sounded dull, period. However, never daunted I replaced the stock green chicklet capacitors with a different ceramic cap from my guitar tech, both caps are .022, unsure of the brand however. I unclipped the wiring harness in the control cavity and removed all wiring from the pots, everything. Much to my disgust, but not too surprised, I found a large cold solder joint on the surface of the neck volume pot. A group of wires pulled away from the solder leaving a nice large clean spot on the pot. I suppose this had something to do with my dull tone. I proceeded to rewire the pots with the 50's style wiring and wow, what a difference! The neck pup now is amazing as I thought it should have been all along. It's open and clear under distortion and of course sounds great clean. There are wiring kits available such as those from RS Guitarworks and Jonesy Blues but if money is tight, (when isn't it?) a cap replacement and simply rewiring the cavity can have dramatic results for very few dollars and a couple of hours of your time. My LP Custom is now my main guitar and I cry everytime I have to put it down. Well not quite but it is simply an amazing guitar. Good Job Epi! twanger
One of my favorite gitfiddles...the cheaper Gibby LPDC: It's sweet, it's mean, it bites, it snarls, it purrs and it growls. For rock and rhythm n' blues this baby delivers.. Oh! If the Epi people are listening let me make this clear...EPIPHONE NEEDS TO BRING THIS MODEL BACK and make them available with either P90s or Humbuckers. They could even get creative and make them as archtops.
cosmitron
The guitar that changed my life 2 days ago: This would match the thread request: €piphone+P90, if there wasn't price restriction.
