Slash?? Why Not John Lennon, or Paul McCartney...someone that actually plays an Epiphone?!

From what I can gather' date=' it seems like George played his Casino for all of a very few months anyway, before putting it aside.

I guess if one wanted to envisage a true Harrison signature guitar from his time with the Beatles, you'd be looking at a Gretsch Country Gent or sonic blue Fender Strat (later garishly adorned)...maybe a Ric 12 string at a push...

When I think of George Harrison with a Casino, I think of him wearing a silly hat in the [i']Hello Goodbye[/i] video, and that's about it...

Yeah, he switched guitars quite often...especially after they stopped touring. Prior to that, it was Gretsch (Duo-jet, Country Gentleman, Tennessean) and Rickenbacker 12-strings. He used the Casino on the '66 Tour, mostly...along

with his second Rickenbacker 12-string (without the double bound body). Lots of photos from that tour, show his

Casino and newer Ric, but you still see the Gretsch's (as backups, mostly), too.

Yeah, George is not really associated with the Casino. And if you look at a list of what songs he played that on, you'll see it is not many. It's funny about George -- the one Beatle guitar he is most connected to, the 12 string Ric, he used on less than a dozen songs. Unlike Paul or John, George really moved around in the guitar department while with The Beatles.

Should Epi (if they could clear it with his estate) release a Harrison Casino? Most would shake their heads 'no' and say I'd rather see a Harrison Gretsch. Epiphone had it right when it came to releasing a Lennon Casino, but a Harrison Casino I think would be pushing things. The guy used it on tour and on about eight recorded songs. He used a Strat a hell of a lot more than the Casino.

You can go on about the Beatles all you like, I think that the point that they are not all that relevant to todays youth is a fair one.

Jefferey Smith said:

So, Epiphone, you don't have a person to use as a music idol using an Epiphone.

I disagree... watch the latest Kings of Leon videos, and you'll see a very proudly displayed "E" on a nice big f hole semi. (I've not seen it close enough or often enough to tell the model yet).

Try telling the kids that the Kings of Leon aren't cool. =D>

They're not the only ones either.

On the other hand, I've never seen Slash play an Epi, so Charlie Brown, you have my agreement.

Well, I guess my real point (if there really was one) was that this long of a promotion/image on the Epi Website,

just seemed strange, given that Slash isn't an Epiphone player, at all. Makes more sense, on the Gibson Website,

maybe with a smaller/shorter promo, on the Epiphone. Heck, put Kings of Leon images, on Epi's web page...that

makes more sense to me. I wasn't trying to cram The Beatles down anyone's gullet, here...just that they played

Epiphone, quite a lot...especially Paul and John, so why "Slash" for "Epiphone," in this concentration. That's all...

As to The Beatles being "not relevant" to this younger generation?? Less so, probably, than My Generation (with all due respect to The Who), but they may (or not) discover their real relevance, overall, someday?

Anyway, no disrespect intended toward "Slash," at all...just thought it was interesting/curious...from the Epiphone

standpoint, that's all.

Before we regret our actions, remember that the John Lennon Les Paul Jr. (what could it possibly cost to make?) is going for a whopping $5,000 street (I think that means that the suggested retail price is about 3 months' salary for me). How many of those thousands are due to the name John Lennon being on the guitar? I think John must have paid about $169 for his.

Let's strive for having Slash's name removed from guitars, but not to have somebody better's name added instead!

Yeah, I understand the "marketing value," etc. Just puzzled by the longevity, of this particular promo, in relation to others,

in the past. "Signature" models have been around for some time, but the "promo" on Epi's website (previous to this one)

was usually 1 month, even for acknowledged Epi users. Then, they'd change...either to another "artist," or another model

or series of guitars. Ultimately, it's their site/promo, they can (and will) have it up, as long as they want. LOL! It just seemed a bit strange, for a non-Epi player, to have the Epiphone version, of his Gibson, so heavily promoted, as IF he was an Epiphone enthusiast. Anyway, it was just amusing/puzzling to me. No big deal, really.

There have been a lot of changes at Epiphone over the past year or so, with the elimination of most Japanese-made epis and the migration to China for production. Methinks there might have been a shakeup (if it ain't broke, why fix it?) and part of that may be trying to raise sales through endorsements.

I don't know Mr. Smith' date=' who hasn't moved to China lately and as much as some of you like the Elitist models, i'm buyin Gibsons either new or used at those prices. Stan.[/quote']

Yeah, I think it will take an act of Congress, to get me to buy any more guitars, for awhile, at least.

When I do, it will be an ES-345 (always wanted one), and a VOS '61 SG with Maestro vibrato, which

will both require a long "savings" period...LOL! Then...That's IT, for "electrics!"

At least, that's "the plan," for now...(all subject to change/gas attacks, etc.).
