Diff between G-310 and SG-310??

Hi, I searched and didn't find any discussion on this, but I wondered of anyone could explain how these 2 lower-end SG models differ?

Epiphone website shows info only for the G-310, not the SG-310, but many retailers have them.

Thanks.

mmm dude...it's like asking what's the difference between Les Paul 100 and LP 100.... G 310 is one of the sub model of SG Guitars.. so you call it SG 310 or G 310 it's the same...!! so there aint any differences in them,... they are the same...Similarly for all the other SG models, like G 400, G 400 Custom, G 400 Goth and Elitist G 400 how ever there is another model that's Prophecy that falls under SG as well...and I don't think they are called Prophecy G 400 lol.. They are called SG custom GX and SG Custom EX...

It's really incorrect labeling by the music store. There is no such thing as an "SG-310", the guitar is properly called a G-310, but guitar stores sometimes use the SG tag because the Epiphone G-310 is based (loosely) on a Gibson SG.

Personally, I wouldn't buy this guitar. I'd try and find a few more $$ and go for a G-400 instead. That way you get a set neck, Grover tuners, and the Epiphone Alnico V pick-ups. If you are on a tight budget then go for a Faded G-400, (these are sometimes sold as "Vintage G-400s. " It is the same guitar as the regular G-400, but without the glossy finish.) All in all, any G-400 is a far superior instrument to the G-310.

At the moment, Guitar Center is selling the following guitars at these prices:

G-310: $249

Vintage/Faded G-400: $299

G-400: $399

1966 G-400 (limited edition) [wonderful guitar, this, in my opinion]: $399

WTF? That one was just $299 last month.

Phooey on the price hikes....!

1966 G-400 (limited edition) [wondeful guitar' date= this, in my opinion]: $399 http://www.guitarcenter.com/Epiphone-Limited-Edition-1966-G-400-Electric-Guitar-102676350-i1166714.gc

I saw the price rise here in Australia too... it's just too much.. for a Standard Les Paul Plus or Plain, we've have to pay $1000+ and G 400's at round about $600-700...

Yeah, when you go to the main GC page for Epiphone SGs it shows at $349, but when you click the link for the 1966 it shows at $399 for both the cherry and the silverburst.

I've always wanted one of these, but I don't need one, as I already have a nice regular G-400.

So I guess I missed out(!)

Thanks for all the responses and info.

Here's the deal: I'm aware that this is a pretty entry level piece with bolt on neck, dot inlays, etc, but instead of that G-310 linked to musiciansfriend for $249, a lot of the sites currently have the SG-310 Value Pack again at $249, ebony model only, which includes the Valve Junior and some accessories like leather starp, stand, tuner (granted these are prob worth a buck or 2 each!)

I was thinking of going for it to get the amp, and then let my son have the G-310, but I wanted to know if there was such a thing as an SG-310, as they sometimes refer to just the guitar. I think a poster above is right, it is incorrectly referred to as an SG-310. That's probably the model number for the value pack though.

I really want the amp for my 2 LP's: '56 GT and Std +Top

Yup, the G-310, or SG-310 are the same guitar. The name probably depends on who typed up the ad that week.

Of the two low-end models, there are the G-310 and the Special. They are basically the same guitar with slightly different hardware. Th 310 has a pickguard, two HBs and a 4-knob config. The Special han no pickguard, two HBs and a 2-knob config.

Good feeling guitars for learning, but you'll want to move up pretty quickly.

Wow, just checked online thinking you were confused, but you're right. You get the G-310 with the valve junior combo for $250. Whats funny, is that the same guitar, bundled with the cheap solid-state amp costs $368!!! So for paying $118 extra, you get a lower quality amp.

Great set up!
