Question about the Epiphone Elitist 1965 Casino

Hey everyone. I don't play Epiphones a whole lot, because I'm more of a Gibson guy.

However, I've recently taken an interest in the Epiphone Elitist 1965 Casino. I found this picture of it on Musician's Friend:

Here's my question:

If I were to purchase my own Epiphone Elitist Casino today, would it be a reissue of the original 1965 model?

I just want to make sure.

Thanks guys.

The Elitist Casino is an excellent instrument, easily and demonstratably superior to the standard Korean or Chinese made Casino (which in itself is a perfectly fine instrument). That said, there are a few differences between it and a vintage '60s Casino, or the John Lennon '65 Casino, which is a more accurate reissue.

1. Finish--the Elitist is finished in poly (though very thing and expertly applied); the Lennon or a vintage model is finished in nitrocellulose laquer.

2. Nut and Saddle: The Elitist uses what most today would the consider "better" combination of bone nut and metal saddles; the Lennon or a vintage model (varies by year) has a corrian nut and nylon saddles.

3. Trapeze Tail Piece: slightly shorter than traditional vintage length on the Elitist.

4. Other: There are some minor differences with the shape of the headstock. Hardware on the Elitist is metric; it's all USA sizing on the Lennon version. I can't remember offhand, but i think the wiring in the Lennon version utilizes a more vintage spec cloth covered braided wire, too.

If you must have an exact vintage repro, the Lennon '65 Casino is as close as you'll get without buying a vintage Casino. If you want something very close, with some arguably modern improvements, the Elitist will do just fine.

So the Elitist that's available on Musician's Friend is just a reissue from the 1965 model?

IF you want the true "Reissue" of the 1965 Casino...you have to get the "Lennon" (sunburst) version, with all the period correct specs and hardware! The "Elitist" is a GREAT guitar, no doubt...but, it's a modernized version, with Poly finish, and Grover tuners, etc. As Red 333 stated, the originals were like the sunburst "John Lennon" version. So, it really depends on how "anal/fanatic" you are, about the "little things," as opposed to whether or not the Elitist would be a good guitar! It IS....truely. In point of fact, the only real differences between the Lennon and the Elitist, are those "little," but more accurate things, that Red mentioned.

Either way, I doubt you'd be disappointed, At All!
