wheatlands
I have an EPI MIC Les Paul Silverburst, a EPI MIC Casino, a Breedlove whose parts were made in Korea and the guitar was assembled in the USA, and a Taylor that was made in Mexico, and a Gibson Firebird USA. Is one better then the other NO. Are they different, YES. I enjoy all of them. Each one sounds different and plays different. On any forum you go on, where guitars are made always brings up discussions. If you like the way it sounds, feels, and plays, get it. Don't let where it was made be a determining factor. midiman56
I currently stand at 3 to 2, Korea vs China in Epi's. The Firebird VII, Lucille and Ultra are Korean. The Prophecy LP and SG are Chinese. All five of them are great guitars. All three of my Fenders have the distinct sent of chorizo on them (Mexico), the Gretsch is also from Korea, and the Squire bass is indonesian (but its just a plank so who cares!). Disney was right ... it IS a small (guitar) world after all! I am hearing some disatisfaction with the current crop of semi's, particularly the Sheriton and Casino, but I think there are gonna be a few dogs in every litter. I hear just as many people saying they're the best guitars ever! I wouldn't let country of origin be a deciding factor ... that's what your ears, hands and eyes are for! brad1
I read somewhere that the Korean made were better. Is this true? I saw a new Korean made Honeyburst model at Guitar Center today for $549.It looked sweet! No it's not true. You can not make a blanket statement like that. All Korean guitars are not ALL the same. Same thing for the Chinese ones. It depends on the factory (there have been several in Korea), the year, the model and other factors. I know a great Luthier in town who thinks that guitars that are made in Korea are some of the worst he has ever seen. He tells me that in the 40+ years he's been reparing/making guitars, he has seen some of the best quality come out of China. And yet I constantly hear around here how great Korean-made Epi's are. I just think it has much more to do with the factory, the year, and the model, than it does the country. After all, it's the factory/company building the guitar. It's NOT the whole country.
