Re: which archtop guitar

Hi. This is my first post here. It is about the some in the range of archtop, semi-hollow body guitars that Epiphone produces, those in the Es-335 shape that is. How prone to feedback is the Casino, and If the holes in the BB King guitar are blockes, does it still have semi hollow body properties regarding sound? And finally other than the colour and inlay differences and f holes, what is the real difference between the BB King guitar and Sheraton 2?

Hello back...young feller. Regarding your question:

Don't own a Casino, but it would seem that a full-on hollowbody guitar would be prone to feedback problems, I'm going back to an Ovation I had that used to feedback pretty bad, being full-on hollow.

The Lucille's absence of f-holes are an attempt to reduce feedback, I believe, in conjunction with the center block all ES guitars have...except the Casino...or do they have a center block? I don't believe they do.

I find the Lucille a little darker sounding due to the lack of f-holes, it took me awhile to find the right pickups for it, eventually tried GFS Mean 90s and now it's my favorite. The Lucille also has the varitone.

Sheraton is the best all around of the three, but you might want to try a few if you get the chance. The older Korean ones had a real nice thin neck, I've played some of the newer one and the necks have a different feel.

As for Casinos, yeah they're hollow, they feedback, and P-90s can be noisy. But I recall these three lads from Liverpool did OK with them. But if you're going Casino, go Elitist or one of the Lennons. You don't get any better than that.

BTW, I assume you're from the other side of the Pond. Colour. Welcome to the camp.

I know nothing about the Lucille or Casino except Casino's a HB so I expect more feedback from it.

With my Sheri I hardly ever get feedback, my Wildkat I get a ton and they're both semi hollow bodies.

Don't know if it helps or not.
