insidedown
Hello everyone, i'm new here and this is my first post. I have this Epi Les Paul DC, year: 99', made in Korea. I play her with my Vox Pathfinder 15r and when i rise up the gain just about 9 o'clock it started to humming. It is not the standard single coil's humm because i've tried a strat to the amp and pull the gain on higher level, it doesn't humm like my Epi LP DC. anyone know what went wrong here? Cheers. deflepfan
Hello, Insidedown, and welcome to the forum! The techy geeks will get to this thread as soon as they log on. In the mean time, you are stuck with me. They will have you do at least the following, so . . . . . . get the guitar to hum, then touch the first pickup (on the metal post). Does the hum go away as you touch a pickup? Do this for each pickup. Next touch the bridge/tail piece(s) (sorry, not looking at a guitar to know exactly what you have following the pickups). Touch only one peiece of metal at a time. Still humming as you touch? Touch the jack. Still humming? If the hum goes away at any one or more points, post this info here and wait. If it does not go away as you move down these parts, post that here and get the multi-meter out and wait. The rescue squad crew will be by to assist you. brad1
Hey insidedown! Welcome to forum. Have you tried pugging the guitar (thru the amp) into a different outlet? I have a '97 MIK LP and if I plug it in this one 2-hole outlet it will hum. None of my other guitars will do that. Not even my '97 SG Jr. with the P-90. However, if I plug the amp into another outlet (3 hole) it does not hum at all. Try this, if you haven't already.
animalfarm
Hello, insidedown! By your post, I "assume" that you are still getting SOUND from both pups, just that now you have a "Humming" that has introduced itself into the mix? Does the hum occur on both pups or just one? Switching cords, switching outlets makes no difference? If no sound output from pups, is it possible your plug-in jack is loose and has been spinning, causing wire break? Does trying what Deflepfan has suggested produce any changes? Go to "Do it Yourself" sticky at top in the Epi Lounge, scroll down to "Electrical Hum, etc" subsection, read the posts - may help if you see what others have done. Post what you've tried.... insidedown
thanks everyone for your opinion. the humm gone when i only touch any metal objects on my guitar (string, bridge, tuner). if i touch both pickup, nothing will happen as the sound still there. i have try strat on the amp, the humm is not louder(just like ordinary single coils humm), but mine is much more louder.
