Aftermarket passive humbuckers

Recommended Posts

Gang,

I tend to be a bit funky about pick-ups, ie wiring them myself or keeping stock.

I know what I want to put on my future Casino.

As a geezer I'm mainly familiar w/ DiMarzio and Seymour Duncan.

Does anyone have any suggestions fot the Hello Kitty Sguire Strat (1 humbucker) that I'll soon be hot rodding?

Well, you won't be putting any humbuckers in your future Casino, unless you want to have them made custom or buy the few dog-ear humbuckers I've seen on the market.

Your choices are:

Seymour Duncan

Alnico Staple Pickup

Dog-ear Mini Humbucker

Stacked P-90

Antiquity P-90

Jason Lollar

P-90

50s Wind P-90

Underwound P-90

Overwound P-90

Guitar Fetish

Alnico Vintage P-90, Cream

Alnico Vintage P-90, Black

Gibson

P-90

Lindy Fralin

Hum-cancelling P-90

Rio Grande

Bluesdawg, Black

Bluesdawg, Creme

Jazzdawg, Black

Jazzdawg, Creme

Baby Dawgbucker

Teeny Dawgbucker

The Inspired by Lennon Casino comes with Gibson USA pickups, no need to upgrade. If you're going to spend money upgrading pickups anyway, you might as well get the better model. It's more historically accurate, slim taper neck mounted at 16th fret, plus you get a nice hard shell case.

I'm really probably not be modding the Casino.

We're just looking at the Hello Kitty.

Some local Metalheads are doing some of my tunes from D@W(Dinosaurs at War). I need to shred at some of their shows!

Thanks guys!!

Jerrymac,

I think you've sold me on the Lennon but I'm also considering a worn cherry SG400. You folks are terrible influences. I had said I'd keep it to two guitars.....(what a liar I am).

I can't see worth a damn... what's that bass in your avatar?:)

I highly recommend the Gibson 490T. It's one of the cheaper Gibson humbuckers but I don't know why. It's easily coil tapable (unlike the '57 classic), wax potted and is a PAF pup. However, it takes high gain really, really well. Put one of those in that kitty with a coil tap and I guarantee it will rock as well as it will roll!

Edit: I've got the 490R/490T combo in my SG and I've been having a whale of a time with this guitar today.

On cleans I can get almost Fenderish twangs if I pluck right. If I crank things up a bit I can get really creamy blues (neck), early AC/DC ish tones (bridge) and early ZZ top with a combined setting. Then, with very high gain amp settings I can get searing harmonics and massive thrash or 80s metal power chords. On this guitar these pups aren't even coil tapped and they're still amazingly versatile.

I've been telling people for yrs that I want a Hello Kitty Strat. That is just too funny. Let somebody call you an insecure male when you're playing one of those!

AND if I had one I'd want to give it as much BALLS as possible!

I certainly hope this is neither of you two..... [confused]
