URGENT CASINO HELP PLEASE!

SSR

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Hope you can help. Where were casinos made in 2005/06? Korea? Which factory?

Also, how would black, a colour they didn't offer stock for lefties, exist? i.e. sample/special order or what?

I don't have serial number (yet). I'm a little suspicious as the current owner insists he doesn't sell fakes but he's not given the serial number yet, only that it's 2006 Korean.

Help please, I don't want to buy a turkey.

thanks,

Probably a good one for Jerrymac to answer.

I'd wait for him or one of the other "gurus" to come along and answer.

It is strange that they wont give a serial number, as it would clear up a lot of angst.

Cant help you about the colour (sounds dodgy to me)

Dont rush into it is all I can offer.

Thanks Darren. Fingers crossed I can get a little guru guidance.

Don't know about the guru thingy' date=' but according to Blue Book lefty Casinos were never available in ebony. In fact, you can't even get right handed Casinos in Ebony anymore, I think they were discontinued around 2003.

Here's the best info I have: Lefty Casinos were available in sunburst & natural from 1997 - 1999. In 2003 they resumed manufacturing lefty Casinos in natural only, presumably in the newly opened QingDao China factory.

You might want to check someplace that specializes in left handed guitars like Southpaw Guitars, but it doesn't sound right to me.

Good luck...

My 2003 lefty natural Casino was made at the Peerless factory in Korea. I don't think any lefty Casinos have been built in a Chinese factory.

Thanks. Have you seen any lefty sunbursts post 2003??? Blue Book claims they only make current lefty Casinos in natural.

The only lefty sunburst I've seen was for sale at Jerry's Lefty Guitars and can be seen at that site's Sold guitar section. It's a beauty. The date and place of manufacture is not listed for it.

That is a beauty. Their little blurb pretty much confirms what Blue Book says about the finish:

"Never out of production since the Beatles made them famous in 1964. Sir Paul still records with his almost exclusively. This is the only Vintage Sunburst lefty I've ever seen. Epiphone stopped making Casino leftys a couple of years ago. Most of the leftys in the last 5 years of production were natural finish. This one is in new condition. No bumps, scrapes, scratches, or dings. Still one of the great guitars." — Jerry Welch

But the leftys are out of production..... :-$

It's possible the guy selling the black casino doesn't know it's a fake. I almost got burned on eBay when I came close to buying a lefty cherry casino from a dude in Korea. Thanks to this forum I learned a lesson before it cost me anything.

He claims he won't give the serial number out because he had an issue once with someone counterfeiting an Epi from a serial number he gave out off a guitar he had for sale. His feedback is first rate and he's sold many guitars of different types.

I'm still a bit iffy as to whether I'll be buying a real rarity (2006 lefty in black special finish/order?) or a fake!

I asked if I bought it that I could check the serial number and see the guitar post sale as a condition of sale but he's insisting paypal only and no returns. Not helpful but paypal will give me some protection over counterfeit goods as a buyer. Just a hassle if I have to end up down that road.

I guess I know what the forum advice will be. Forget it! Right?

That's lame. You don't need an official serial # to make a counterfeit. All you have to know is the pattern like this:

EE07120765

I just made that up, run it through the serial # decoder and it will tell you:

Your guitar was made at the

Qingdao Plant (Epiphone), China

December 2007

Production Number: 0765

Just for fun, let's change EE to R:

Your guitar was made at the

Peerless Plant, Korea

December 2007

Production Number: 0765

I just moved it to Korea!!!

Counterfeiters don't need to trick anyone into giving them a real #, all they have to do is make one up!!! It's not like they're going to be covered by warranty...

I guess I just placed the opening bid on this black lefty. It seems genuine, but now you've got me wondering [blush] .

I do have a natural Casino Elitist, but when I try to look that one up by the serial number, it says "serial number unrecognized". It's my absolute favourite guitar (and i only have tele's other then this Casino) and I bought it in Japan a few years ago. Serial number inside is 05452, that's all. Anybody knows what's up with that?

Oh, and this thread made me register on this site, so... hey all!

Cheers,

David

I wouldn't bid on a black lefty Casino, 'nuff said.

Your Elitist is probably not actually an Elitist but a MIJ Casino made for the Japanese market. It has an orange label and a 5 digit serial number, correct??? These were made by Terada, the same factory that makes the Elitist. Production began around 1988, Elitist in 2002. Elitist would have a serial # on the back of the headstock beginning with the letter T (for Terada), as well as the Elitist logo. Either way, they're excellent guitars.

Welcome to the camp...
