jsa11
I have an Epiphone Casino that I'm using as a backup/project guitar. I'm new to the forum, and was just wondering: A: What type of tone change I can expect from a fully hollow guitar like the Casino B: Any recommendations on pickups to get? i Can Tuna Guitar
What type of tone change I can expect from a fully hollow guitar like the Casino It would sound just like a Casino with mini humbuckers.
Notes_Norton
Why would you want to change the P90 sound to anything else? P90s are the best sounding pickups made. Unless of course it was you second of third Casino and you wanted something different. Insights and incites by Notes ♫
jsa11
It would sound just like a Casino with mini humbuckers. Thank you for your wonderful insight into the matter... Insights and incites by Notes ♫ I have a proper Elitist Casino that I would never meddle with. I also own a Sheraton with mini-hums which I really like. I was simply curious as to how a humbucker would do in a a guitar without a solid center block.
Doctor in the House
I have a proper Elitist Casino that I would never meddle with. I also own a Sheraton with mini-hums which I really like. I was simply curious as to how a humbucker would do in a a guitar without a solid center block. Is there a reason you didn't share that with us from the beginning? What are you hiding? It's like trying to diagnose an illness when a patient's withholding vital information from his doctor. You don't say what kind of Casino you're talking about, a standard reissue will sound different from an Elitist due to differences in construction, but I think it's safe to say a little fuller and jazzier than your Sherry. The closest I can think of is a vintage Sorrento, thinline hollow body with minis. Greg
Notes_Norton
The great Emily Remler played a 330 with regular humbuckers in it. It reportedly was her favorite guitar (and she was one hell of a guitarist). Notes ♫
pohatu771
The problem with changing Casino pickups is that you're limited to what will fit in that space. There are a few dogear mini-humbuckers available, but I forget who makes them. I'll see if I can find the list I made. [EDIT] I did find it. These are all of the aftermarket pickups I found that you can install in an archtop guitar without doing anything irreversible. P-90s, hum-cancelling P-90s, and humbuckers are all included. Your choices are: Seymour Duncan Alnico Staple Pickup Dog-ear Mini Humbucker Stacked P-90 Antiquity P-90 Jason Lollar P-90 50s Wind P-90 Underwound P-90 Overwound P-90 Guitar Fetish Alnico Vintage P-90, Cream Alnico Vintage P-90, Black Gibson P-90 Lindy Fralin Hum-cancelling P-90 Rio Grande Bluesdawg, Black Bluesdawg, Creme Jazzdawg, Black Jazzdawg, Creme Baby Dawgbucker Teeny Dawgbucker
tweed1
Another option you might consider is Pete Biltofts (Vintage Vibe) P90s. His are configured so that the magnets can be changed anywhere from AlNico 2,2,5 or Ceramic8. When you buy, you get your choice of two magnet sets for each pickup. Just takes a few minutes to change them out and you can really shape your tone. Almost acoustic at the neck to balls-out at the bridge. Until I put them on my Casino, I rarely used the neck pickup and the middle postion creates this huge humbucker tone. His website has some great samples and he's very free with information and advise. These aren't your avaerage p90s.
