opinions on early 70's to early 80's Casinos

in a local CL ad, I found a Japanese made Casino for really cheap (400 bucks) in a cool sunburst that in no way looks Beatle spec.

my question is what is the quality on the 70's - early 80's era Casinos? Of course I'd still want a McCartney spec model one of these days, but, judging from the pics I saw in the ad, it looks really, really cool.

yeah, that's the one that's posted in the ad. I haven't seen one from that era in a long time, though. An old friend that I haven't seen since the Civil War owns one (blonde). But, I never did ask him how well it was made or anything like that. Is it better constructed and better made than a current one..say like a Chinese Lennon model???

That looks like an early 80's matsumoko japanese casino. In my opinion they are on a par (if not better) than the elitist models. Not quite as good as the USA/Japan built Lennon models but much better than the Korean/Chinese built guitars.

The first number of the serial number is the year it was made ie. 4567789 would be an '84 model.

I have owned a few of these early '80's casinos, a Korean made casino, 2 elitists (one good one so so) and I've just got a '65 Lennon Casino. I also currently own an '84 matsumoko riviera that I love.

You really can't go wrong with these Japanese made Epis, if it's a good price I'd definitely reccommend going for it!!!

I just might!!! I've always wanted a McCartney spec Casino, but, that one just looks soooo damned cool. Besides, I keep on hearing rumors about a model coming out soon to look like Paul's '62 model...I'll get one of those if and when they come out.

Great guitars, highly desirable, a steal at $400... You could probably sell it for twice that amount on eBay, I've sold 2 and got between $800 - $900.

Quality wise, they're way better than any MIC/MIK Casino I've played, equal to the Terada made Elitist or Lennon Casinos.

I've just re-read your post and noticed the price!

$400!!!

GO FOR IT!

A mint '83 matsumoko riviera has just gone on eBay UK for £1300!

That's good news then. Here's my '83 (like I haven't shown it before) and you'd have to offer a lot more than that to prise it out of my hands. It's the sweetest guitar I've ever played.

The one in the pic looks like late 70's to 80's Matsumoku, and if it's in good condition would be a great deal at $400. Be careful. though --- the ones made in the early to mid-70's, also by Matsumoku, were an entirely different spec, with bolt-on necks, cheezy single coil pickups, and a different (ugly) body shape, and in my opinion should never have been called Casinos.

I guess I was about ten seconds too late. I just the seller a message the moment I saw it listed and I just got a reply back from him saying it was sold...kinda a heartbreaker (but my wallet is still safe at the moment, though)

this was the original ad here
