ef_in_fla
Just curious what some of you guys prefer in the way of tuner upgrades? My '99 LP has the Kluson type with the skinny shaft and plastic button and they have to go. I put Grovers on an Epi LP once and they seemed to be too short (or headstock was too thick?). Sperzels seem nice. Just wondering what you guys have had success with. Thanks for any help.
brianh
For me, it's largely an aethestic / period correct issue assuming the tuners are decent quality. I'm not much of an LP guy, but I notice that the Kluson waffle-back and Grover tulip head tuners are popular. Stew Mac has a big selection and some new brands: http://www.stewmac.c...ead_tuners.html (If you click on the specs tab, it will show the dimensions which will help with getting the right shaft length.) Also All Parts: http://www.allparts....-Keys-s/167.htm And for the budget-minded, GFS: http://www.guitarfet...A-Side_c_6.html (BTW, the GFS Sperzal-style locking tuners are very nice for $30 a set.) animalfarm
I have a fondness for Tulip Tuners, have 'em on 3 of my gits, have "Gibson Deluxe Tulips" on my 2 EPI LPs. Link to ebay example so you can see what I'm talking about, I paid around $35 for each set. The seller I usually use is out of them right now... http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Genuine-GIBSON-DELUXE-Tuners-NICKEL-PEARLOID-/290488610433?pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item43a2786e81
stumblinman
Animal, mind if I ask why you blacked out your serial number? I've seen a few people cautious about posting their serials, and I was wondering why. If you don't want to tell me, just say "bugger off" ;)

I blacked out the last part because it's a REAL serial number in the EPI system. A Counterfeiter/"Makee-Fakee" guy would use it on a FAKE, and it would show up as LEGIT on serial number searches. That's all.
Supersonic
big +1 on the Gibson Deluxe Tulips. Do those just "drop in" to Epi LPs?

That's all. Couldn't they take the first part of the numer and add 4 more random numbers to it? It would still show up as legit in Guitar Dater. Better to black out the whole thing, I think... animalfarm
big +1 on the Gibson Deluxe Tulips. Do those just "drop in" to Epi LPs? Yes, straight drop in. The Gibby Deluxe Tuners actually COVER the original GROVER D-tip screw hole, should you choose not to fill in with glue and toothpick...

Thanks guys but it's the tulips I'm trying to get away from lol. The knobs just seem really cheap to me. I appreciate the feedback on these GFS lockers. I've wondered about them for a long time and have been very close to ordering them a couple times. Maybe now.
