RoadKing_03
Hi all, I'm new here and I see you guys sure know your stuff when it comes to these LPs. I picked up this LP last summer when on vacation. I bought it at a used guitar store and the guy who worked there didn't even know what model it is. He believes it's a studio and so do I but can't seem to find any thing to back this up. I even went as far as buying a 1993 Gibson Les Paul catalogue. I hope you can shed some light on this for me. I love to play it, it plays like butter, and sounds fantastic. Thanks

Franzi
The serial on your guitar shows production in 1993. the Studio Lite was available from 1987 till 1998, it has coil tap switch, humbucking open coil pickups and Black Chrome hardware. Greetings, Franzi

pippy
... what is a coil tap switch? It's a way to cut one of the pair of p-up coils of a humbucking pickup from taking an active role in the sound-production process. Using the switch effectively turns a twin-coil humbucking pickup into a single-coil unit. In practical terms think of going from a typically Les Paul sound (humbucker) to more of a Stratocaster (single-coil) sound. P.
Tim Plains
Do you have push/pull pots on the guitar? Isn't it coil split? Do I always get this mixed up or does everyone else? Right or wrong? Coil split is when you use one side of the humbucker. One coil, hence the split. Coil tap is when you lower the output of the pickup. Take the PRS 513 for example - you can have the humbucker pumping out 8k or 15k. Either way, it's still using both sides of the pickup and you tap it to get the lower output. Thundergod
You are right PEarlyGates owner dude Coil split: you only use one coil. Coil tap: you use (say) half of both coils, so the output is decreased considerably, but it's still a humbucker (a puny one, but one nonetheless)
