pete c Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 now that the gain channel quit on my current amp. i have been using stomp boxes on the clean channel for my sound. could i just buy a power amp and run that to my 4x12 cab.
SHO Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 I would imagine most power amps are designed to take line level at the input while stomp boxes would normally operate at something closer to instrument level, which is lower. I know Mesa Boogie's 2:90 has a switch to set the input to instrument level, so that should work. I have no idea how it would sound though.

pete c Posted January 10, 2011 Author Posted January 10, 2011 its a peavey trans tube 100w 2x12 combo. when on the lead channel it sounds like bacon frying. switch to the clean channel quiet as can be.
damian Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 It can be done....it's not an ideal solution though..
pete c Posted January 10, 2011 Author Posted January 10, 2011 thanks for the replies, i stick with using the clean channel for now with distortion pedals, until i figure out what amp to replace it with far too many choices out there. guess i need to plan a road trip with the sg and try out amps. Andy, do you know of any good solid state amp kits out there?
