LP Traditional or Traditional Pro

I hope I am asking for help with a topic that has been discussed before. I have the opportunity to trade in my LP Studio Worn for a new LP Traditional or Traditional Pro. I look at this as much as an investment in a "work of art" as a new guitar. I am not sure my skills warrant a change, but... what the heck.

What would you say the advantages are to upgrading and all things considered, what are the differences (besides specs) between the two?

Look forward to everyone's input.

I have a worn brown Studio and an Iced Tea Traditional Plus. I considered the Traditional Pro when I bought the Traditional, but I really liked the weight of the Traditional and the sound of the 57's. Play them both.

The PRO has locking tuners and coil taps for single coil sounds. The traditional is a plain 'ol Les Paul with 57 Classic Humbuckers and Kluson tuners. The Traditional PLUS has a sweeeeet figured top, and is a real looker! I played the Pro, The Standard and the Plus. I liked the Plus much better! You gotta pick whats right for you!

The way I look at it, they're really the same guitar because they both have weight-relieved bodies and short neck tenon.

Google "Gibson Les Paul 101" if you don't know what these mean.

Traditional - flamed maple top, covered '57 Classic / Classic Plus pickups, fatter '50s neck.

Traditional Pro - plain maple top, exposed split coil zebra '57 Classic / Burstbucker 3, satin finish, slim '60s neck.

Definitely play them and see which one you like more. I think the neck and top will be the major/deciding factors for you. It doesn't sound like you're treating this as a financial investment - good because you will loose money on either one. An investment as a "work of art" is really in the eye of the beholder. Some plain tops are gorgeous and some flame tops are revolting.

I love the look of your LP... You are correct in all aspects. Not sure I will "lose" money, but that isn't really the issue (not that I have lots of $$$) but if looks were the only thing, I could look at an Epi... I think it is the entire package. Does sound like I will gain a number of things over the studio with whichever LP I opt for.. This GAS is an awful ailment to have.

Thanks for the advice. Last time I went on the forum for advice when looking at Epi Sheraton vs. Casino, ended up with a Wildkat... Who knows where this will lead...
