Epiphone Casino E-230 TD "Lennon style"

Guitar Saloon

Recommended Posts

The serial number on this one is 853929 - due to overlapping serial numbers there is some chance this might be a 1969, but I believe it to be a 1966. Any help form the Forum on this one would be much appreciated.

Wheee - a real headscratcher.

From the "Do-it-Yourself Thread" in EPI Lounge:

THIS link says 1966 OR 1969:

http://home.provide.net/~cfh/epiphone.html#serial

THIS link shows parallelogarms, nickel pups, and a white pickguard in 1963"

http://home.provide.net/~cfh/epiphon2.html#casino

THIS link gives general specs about 61 - 69 casinos:

Hey, it's a start!

Thanks @Animalfarm - the hunt continues. That last link shows production numbers which is interesting - 899 in 1966 and only 78 in 1969 so odds are ... 1966. More input is welcome!

Thanks for the photo - the thing is ... look how much darker my sunburst is than that one. Is the one the in the photo yours? thanks for the help.

Photo's can be notoriously deceiving, different lighting, aperture settings etc. conspire to aid in the deception, I have pics of the same geet, taken on the same day, with the same camera, that have vast colour differences. You also have to consider what a difference can be achieved by enhancing the pic in programs such as photoshop. Other differences could be attributed to exposure to smoke/non-smoke environments, if the guitar was stored on a stand by a bright window or cased.

The colour would be a very minor consideration for me.

EDIT: also one seems to be a cherry-burst and the other a tobacco-burst or dark sun-burst.

This guitar (Casino) is not for sale or trade - just looking for information - sorry about the link for the FT - it just came up after he posted the pick of his acoustic next to the Casino. Admin can delete the post if this is not allowed - sorry I am new to the forum.

Heh, I've been here a few years (wIth a mid way hiatus), and as I mentioned I only found that out the other day, so don't beat yourself up over it.

I would say if the guitar is all original then it is a 66, as it is a little known fact, that from 67 onwards Casino`s came with Black knobs, although some people prefer the gold ones and replace them. The Casino is of great interest to me and I love all the little spec change quirks you get, such as in 66 the foil "E" changed to the raised plastic variety, the Nylon inserts on the saddles changed to metal, Nickel plating changed to Chrome, amd if you look closely enough the shape of the horns are slightly different to the 65 and earlier models. I`m getting carried away now, but yes I think it`s a 66.

Thanks once again Steve for your insight. The knobs are such a cool color I could see why people would change them to the gold if they had black ones. I'll have to take a closer look at the other details you mentioned. I'll post more pictures on the facebook page on the weekend.
