Epi Studio Goldtop?

Anyone ever heard of or seen an Epiphone Goldtop Studio Les Paul? I spotted one at GC last night, brand new. The entire guitar is gold, has a chunkier and wider neck than the RI GT's and played very nicely. I can't find anything online about this GT. Could it be a GC exclusive?

I saw this at MF. Is this what you mean? http://www.musicians...electric-guitar

Yes, that's it.

I've played quite a few Epi studios and I think they're just amazing for what they cost. I love the beefier neck and the HB's are just fine.

I had a 15% off coupon so I stuck the GT on layaway at $349. I'm not crazy about it being dipped from head to toe in gold but it played wonderfully and my carpal tunnel syndromed hand appreciates the wider/chunkier neck.

Thanks for finding the info, I appreciate it.

If you like the way it plays, GOOD move on grabbing it!!!!

Back in 2008, I paid $349.00 for my "Plain Jane" EPI LP Studio - they weren't

making the "Deluxe" versions then (see sig line). It came with UNCOVERED HBs,

DOT inlays for fretboard, and D-Tip Grovers.

The one you're looking at has: COVERED HB's, TRAPEZOID inlays, and TULIP TIP

tuners at THE SAME PRICE I PAID 3 years ago!!!!! Having owned 3 Gibbys previously,

I upgraded mine with Gibson HBs and Tuners. Still have the dot inlays, want TRAP

inlays - but that's another "DIY" project when I have all the correct tools! [biggrin]

Your Studio will have:

Bridge Pickup - Alnico Classic Plus, 13.3Kohms, "HOTCHB8B" pup

Neck Pickup - Alnico Classic, 8.5Kohms, "HB6N" pup

Pickup output will definitely provide bottom-end and midrange, may be

slightly weak on the highs (also depends on your AMP). Strangely enough, the

EXACT SAME pups also came in my 2006 LP Classic, and sounded just great.

Only difference was Studio was "Solid Mahog", and the "Classic" had a

body cap and Poly finish. Not telling what yours may result in, as it appears to

have a Poly Finish......

Neck is a "Fat-D" style, VERY playable. AND, the slightly thicker neck

will not react so quickly to temp and humidity changes - The thinner "Flat-D" neck

on my LP Classic tells me all about it when these change. Adjust, adjust....

Except for the Headstock, will look just like a Gibby Studio.
