MrKing
I bought and Epiphone Sheraton II in Ebony a couple of weeks ago. Beautiful Guitar and Great Playing. However I noticed that the Epiphone Lucille was only about $100 more and was considering returning the Sheraton in favor of the Lucille. Since guitar center does not keep the Lucille in stock I don't really have a way to test drive it. I was hoping someone here could possibly give me some feedback pro/cons of either. Thanks in advance
charlie brown
Tough choice, indeed. I'm fortunate enough, to own a Gibson "Lucille," and a AIUSA Sheraton, also. My Sheraton has the mini-humbuckers, so it's a bit different, than the current model. There are 2 distinct advantages, to "Lucille," in your case. One...the Varitone, allows a lot more diverse tones, than the Sheraton (Stock) would allow. Of course, you could always add a Varitone, to the Sheri, later. Two...No "f" holes, in Lucille's body, to add to the feedback possibilities, at higher volumes. There will, most likely be neck radius differences, too. My Sheraton has a thin '60's style neck profile, and "Lucille" is much "fatter," much the same as a "fat neck" ES-335. Those (No "f" holes, and chunky neck) were to BB's spec's. So... IF you don't want/need, a Varitone, and aren't going to play at extremes, in volume, your Sheraton should be "just fine!" They're (Both) great guitars, though...so, I'd advise you play a "Lucille," before you make any decision. You may love it...more, or decide you're alright, where you are, now. Good Luck! Supersonic
Another option you might want to consider is waiting until the ES-345 comes out. It has the Varitone and stereo output like the Lucille, but it has the F-holes like the Sheraton. Plus it has a sweet Bigsby. It's the same price as the Lucille. charlie brown
I've said it before...but I still wish Epi would offer a "red" finish, on Lucille, like Gibson does! That, would be awesome! The ES-345 looks great, just wish it has multi-ply binding, on the front, like the Gibby version. "Picky, picky, picky!" LOL CB
