Marshall Paul
OK guys, this is what happened. We were having a bit of a jam this past weekend and the subject came up about Framptons black Les Paul pickups. Now, I say they're 490,498 & 500's and someone else reckons they're S/D super distortions. A slab of VB is the bet so anyone out there more knowledgable than us weekend drunks know what the real story is with Pete's blackie?
neilpanda
Specs on the gibby site say the the pups are as follows: Neck: '57 classic Middle: '57 classic plus Bridge: 500T so I guess you were more right than your buddies
Marshall Paul
Yeah, thats what the official site says and thats what they're putting on the new signature models but I've got a gut feeling thats not what was on the first and original guitar that he used in the mid 70's and on FCA. Too neat and tidy. Also, you run one of these new fiddles through a Pete standard 50 and 100W Marshall setup and it sounds completely different to the sound in the 70's. It can't be replicated. Don't get me wrong, it's still a beautiful sound, just not the same so somethings not right, not like the original.
