Gibson do not track those serial numbers because those guitars do not come from Gibson. They come from a company that buys damaged new guitars, repairs them and resells them. Most of them come from a company named MIRC. There may be other companies that do the same thing but this is the only one I've come across.

I could be wrong but I think these JL Casinos with the "R" on the back of the headstock are a bit of a different cituation. The original run was a limited run and these were left over bodys after the limted run. They were sold at MF ( And possibly other outlets?) with a standard black case.

Yes, I was also wondering if this guitar might have come from that run. They did the same type of a close out with the JLH Sheraton. I believe some of them were shipped without a case.

Thanks for the help guys! I believe that it was one of the guitars left from the limited run of 1965. There's not a mark on it anywhere and no issues with it at all. The only thing I can see is a small blemish in the wood grain near the input jack. Maybe this mark stopped it making it into the final 1965??

The guy I got it from said he got it from the USA and it did come in a deluxe black epi case.
