Hello all,

this is a quick and totally non subjective question for you all..... or maybe not

I want to buy my first Gibson, and I think its going to have to be a Les Paul

but now for the tricky bit...which one do I get?

I want one that is the best value for money and the criteria are:

- Sound

- Looks

- Build Quality

so what would you guys suggest I go for?

Im happy to go new and second hand by the way

thanks Dazz

IMHO; New......Gibby Traditional Plus Les Paul.......cost; $2100.00

IMHO; Used......1970s or 1980s Les Paul Standard.......cost; $1000.00 to $2000.00

Or, new or used Gibby Studio.....cost; $450.00 to $900.00

Used Customs can be found at nice prices as well...........

Be aware of copys and fakes......If buying used, preview them here........

Thanks Damian

the studio really doesn't do it for me - it looks a bit dowdy. I know that sounds pretty superficial, but if I'm investing in a guitar I want it to look as good as it sounds.

the Custom, I always thought was out of my reach, but perhaps the standard?

are there any UK'ers on here that could give some advice on what the market is like over here and what is the best option to go for over here?

Hi I own a few Gibsons, epis & fenders so can give you a good idea.

I can surgest a Bonamassa Studio £1,100 (Dawsons & Guitar Guitar have stock, it may be a studio but it has many of the Standards appointments, the only loss is binding but thats no biggy

But if you must get a Standard your best investing in a Traditional or Standard post 2008 They sell for £1,850 & £2,050 new repectfully

In the purchasing stakes I surgest using a 12 month finance agreement, you pay a minimum of 10% up front and pay the rest over 12 installments with 0% APR! (Dawsons this one)

Hope that helps [thumbup]

Thank for the that garymoore.

I'll give that a look. Sounds pretty good to me!

by the way, loving the Gary Moore tribute. I was lucky enough to meet the great man a few times. He actually went to my School and Eric Bell (the Thin Lizzy guitarist) used to be my dads apprentice so we had links that way too,

phenomenal guitarist.

anyway, enough rambling, thanks for the advice

Right.....so I have decided

I want to pick up a Traditional and I want it in Tobacco burst....quite like the Slash special edition

pure sex on strings

now all I have to do is learn how to play like him......hmmmm perhaps that bots never going to happen!

thanks again for all the advice
