IndianScout
Decided to make my #1 my own and make some changes to it,, it started out as a 1st edition 1960 Tribute let me know what you think.. some interesting finds with the build quality and woods.. maple cap pic http://i39.tinypic.com/w6xpna.jpg they use alpha pots stock http://i39.tinypic.com/osd0k9.jpg Seymour Duncan 59's install http://i40.tinypic.com/200y32e.jpg http://i42.tinypic.com/s25u2b.jpg filing the pick guard by hand so I get a nice fit http://i41.tinypic.com/e6twuv.jpg more random shots.. http://i40.tinypic.com/2ih5orc.jpg http://i42.tinypic.com/2a6uyqc.jpg http://i43.tinypic.com/21cugx4.jpg http://i43.tinypic.com/fd930j.jpg http://i40.tinypic.com/jhvrcp.jpg http://i40.tinypic.com/t7opk7.jpg anyway, I still have to order the Schaller locking tuners, I really dislike these that are so tall, I've ordered a tusq nut and saddles. thinking about a chrome jack plate, haven't decided yet.. I just wanted to see how far you could take an already well built guitar and start adding all the goodies to it to customize it to make it your own. I think I've got a good start.. Plus Top Dan
Good Stuff. What's your verdict on the '59 pickups? Are the capacitors in the photo stock on your Epi?
SNick
Really nice so far. What do the 59's do for tone.
Blueman335
Nice job! '59's are a great choice. I have those in an Epi LP Std too. I put an UOA5 magnet in the bridge, which reduced treble, & increased mids and dynamics.
IndianScout
the caps are stock, Mallory's the 59's compared to the classic 57's are more defined and clear, they take every inflection you impart into a note or picking and makes it very very noticeable in the difference between them and the classic 57's. when I changed the pots, I had to drill out the holes to 3/8 as Epi uses metric pots, nothing like taking a drill to a new finish lol, I was sweating until I got past the finish, I started very very slow. I removed the coil splitting and went with the standard Gibson modern wiring, I think I made a great choice. now to do it to my backup axe.. huge difference in the amount of wiring after the change
claydots
Very Nice.... I put covers on mine and it made a big difference. Duncan 59's are great in Lesters. Just about anything actually... my favorite humbucker (besides a real PAF).
