My first post on this forum and I just wanted to praise my 4 month old Epi es 175 reissue..Simply LOVE this thing.. I play for a living and this is my play-around-the-house guitar.. I`ve only played one gig with it as I`m primarily an acoustic guitar player, but damn what a bargain!!

Any other proud es-175 reissue owners on this forum?

I love mine - it`s so sweet I named her Honey! - you have to post a pic!

here is mine.

It`s identical to yours..lol. I`ll take a pic of it with my other guitars tomorrow and post it.

A friend of mine posted a pic of his tonight on FB and it was black! He hasn`t answered me yet, but did they make a black one at some point?

I`m thinking about taking the pick guard off. What do ya`ll think?

Absolutely, a pickguard isn't necessary on an archtop, if it has a nice finish, better off seeing that finish than a lump of plastic IMHO.

I'm thinking of getting either a Casino or 175. What I want is to be able to get decent sound "unplugged". A Casino and/or 175 were suggested to "fill the bill". How would you rate the 175 "unplugged"? I play strictly in the confines of my own home and right now do not even have an amp.

If I was going to buy an archtop for acoustic tone I would get one with a floating bridge.. In other words one that didn`t have two big holes cut out in the top for pickups.. I can certainly hear my 175 when I play it unplugged but it doesn`t really fill the roo0m with sound.

I have both and play both often and can tell you that in an unplugged battle between my 175 with 11's and my Casino with 10's the Casino wins hands down as far as projection/ acoustic volume and tone! I don't know enough to say if the string gauge or body depth makes the difference between the two or not but this is what i have experienced!

I took it off today and like it lot`s better..Gives it more of a vintage look.

Were there any visible screw holes left behind? It would be great to see a picture or two. This suggestion has me thinking, but I admit being nervous about starting to disassemble my baby!

Yep 2 holes. I might fill them with a glue/sawdust putty, but also maybe not.

Just place the original screws back in them, it doesn't look as bad as it sounds.

I took the guard off mine for a few months and it looked great but for some reason I put it back on and there it stays!

+1. My Casino is also loud acoustically. Great guitar.

Yes! I replaced the neck pup (it was actually pretty nice to begin with, but read on). My original intention was, since I couldn't afford a Gibson ES175, I'd build one, bit by bit. The neck pup is now a Gibson Burstbucker II and is literally a PERFECT fit for emulating a Gibson ES175. I frequently get very nice compliments about its tone. Many musicians are stunned that the tone they're hearing is from an Epi. Musicians can be some pretty biased jerkwads, y'know. ](*,)

Hmm not a bad idea. I`m amp poor so I`m ordering a Fender DRRI in the next few days.. After I build up a bit more cash I`ve though about swapping out the electronics in my epi.

+1. Put some BB's in an Epi, and how many players could tell that apart from a Gibson by sound alone?
