phiit
I play mainly rock & metal.. check out our band if interested: King Weird the pickups are about $35 a piece, I've changed Mean 90's to all my guitars lately, really dig those, at least they work the best for me (have tried everything from active to passive over the 20yrs of playing :P)
Versatile
Nice one Does one assume they are a bit like P90's ? V
phiit
Nice one Does one assume they are a bit like P90's ? V Quote from GFS: "The Means are smoother- warmer, fuller and a tad louder. If you like Vintage Tones and really want to FEEL your pick attack on the strings- I think the mean 90 may be the best pickup currently available" and I underline this 100% :) They are mean pickups if you want them to ;) I really like the warm crunchy tone and the top end on these, I have used these for the past 4 years as my main pickups. Always loved P90's and these are just slightly hot rodded versions, nothing too hot, work extremely well with less gain and clean settings aswell

IanMak3103
HNDD! Looks cool! I wanted a semi-hollow for the future, however, I don't want one too big. Still dunno what are the main difference between all these semi-hollows, Sheraton, Casino, Dot, ES-339, etc. I'm completely new to Semis. Which one is the smallest to start with? Thx for the info, much appreciated! However, would the size affect the tone very much? Is it the bigger the cleaner the tone? When you say they're comfortable to play, are they much lighter than LP, too?? I might go to a shop and try as ES-339.

Well, never actually tried 339 myself, I can't really comment on tone how much the smaller 339's bodysize affects it, but I think there definately is a difference. 335 is much lighter than atleast my Gibson Les Paul, very big difference

Cyphre
Nice guitar. Nice upgrades. Needs a polish. Looks dirty. Love those knobs. Got the same for mine. Too bad the fretboard isn't darker. Would look better. I darkened my Dot's fretboard. Looks better. Probably gonna buy some Harpmaster HMS-3 Classic PAF Humbuckers for it. Getting a custom ES-335 shaped pickguard for it too. Gratz on your good wisdom and fine taste, sir.

And of course, they don't weight anything like the 4,972 tons a Les Paul weighs.

Gratz on your good wisdom and fine taste, sir. The flaslight made it look dirty and the fretboard is darker in normal light ;) Epiphone's today are most bang for buck guitars, they don't necessary even need any upgrades, the 57 pickups on it were pretty ok, but I'm a P90 guy so change was necessary. Factory setup was awful though, it was barely even playable out of the box :P Luckily it responds to adjustments correctly.
IanMak3103
Thanks for the info, guys. Will definitely rock up to a shop next time to try the ES-339 or other semi-hollows.

dporto
I don't want one too big. Still dunno what are the main difference between all these semi-hollows, Sheraton, Casino, Dot, ES-339, etc. I'm completely new to Semis. Which one is the smallest to start with? The Casino is a Full Hollowbody with P-90's (the Casino sound is all over the Beatles White Album) so it doesn't really belong in the semi-hollow discussion. The Sheraton, and DOT are similar (both sport two Humbuckers with solid center block and laminated/plywood body) except the DOT doesn't have neck binding and the Sheraton has flashier asthetics and a laminated 5 pc. neck. The New DOT Pro, adds neck binding and coil taps for the two humbuckers. The 339 pro has a smaller, lighter body (still semi-hollow with solid center block fron neck to tail) and the coil taps on the humbucking pick-ups. A lot to digest I know, but it all comes down to fairly subtle differences between the Sheraton and DOT. The 339 is a little more obvious as it's about 1/3 smaller than the other two. Good luck
