Versatile
Sad to hear of Hal's passing... A true genius as a lyricist Complementing his musical partner Burt Bacharach Together writing many ageless classics any budding songwriter could enjoy and learn from V

Versatile
Start with poetic, resonant lyrics (with inherent rhythm) Add carefully crafted melody, space, harmony, motion.... Songwriting at it's very best... V

rodmeister
Great songwriter that wrote some of the best pop lyrics of the 60's. In addition to Bacharach, credit to Dionne Warwick for her interpretation of their songs.

Songwriting at it's very best... V We tend to think of the 60's in terms of the great folk and rock music of the period, but there was an awful lot of very good jazz and "popular songbook" music, like that of Bacharach/David, that crossed over the genres and was turned into hits by pop/rock artists. A lot of this music was stylistically related to the great bossa nova music made popular by Tom Jobim and the other wonderful Brazilian singer/songwriters. It was a great time for popular music, and Hal David was right in the middle of it. I was a folkie/rocker by day, but was always a sucker for their romantic ballads by night. Versatile
Yes indeed Mr j45 It may be true that Burt 'n Hal, along with Stan Getz and Charlie Byrd, turned the most people worldwide onto the joys of Bossa outside of Brazil... Having the very best vocalists onboard too only adds to the legendary quality of their music... Dionne Warwick Sacha Distel Cilla Black Karen Carpenter Dusty Springfield Aretha Franklin Bobbie Gentry + any more anyone may remember....
