I am looking to buy ot trade for a Epiphone les paul. The color i am looking for is the black model with the white trim and chrome hardware. is ther any certin models that are better than others? And if so Why? What should i be on the lookout for? I am not that picky about color i just want to get a good one. I have 2 epip G-400 one is a 61 reissue and the other is a 66 reissue. i just want something different.. I dont know much about the Les paul models and i am hoping to learn something.. Thanks Roy

It's all a matter of preference.

But here's a good place to gain some knowledge about all the LPs ----> http://www.epiphonew...?title=Les_Paul

Thanks for the help i did notice this on the page and i am not sure what it means.

( In 2008, Epiphone increased the size of the heels on their Les Pauls)

If you want a black Epiphone Les Paul with chrome hardware, I'd go for the Traditional Pro. The new "ProBucker" pickups in that model have awesome clarity, and are miles ahead of the old Alnico Classics (based on guitars I've had a chance to play in the local shops). Tellingly, I haven't been able to find ProBuckers for sale - the people buying guitars with Epiphone's new pickup design seem to be keeping the pickups in, rather than switching them out like people have been doing with the Alnico Classics.

Good Observation and good suggestion.

Much depends on what you want for pickups.

The Traditional pro comes with the Epi Probuckers. Cost is $500. If you want a hard Epi case add about $70. Final cost about $600.

If you want real Gibson '57 Classics get a Tribute Plus. Cost is $600. Comes with Epi hard case. (no pickguard) Final cost about $600.

(both have coil tap)(can add pickguard for about $20)

If you want Seymour Duncan or some aftermarket pickups, you might want to look for a used L.P.Standard in black.

Cost with hard shell case should be around $350- $400 depending on condition. Add your style pickups. Final cost about $600.

The current "new" L.P.Standards are the L.P.Standard Pro and I don't think they are available in black.

Edit: MusiciansFriend lists L.P. Standards in ebony at $400.
