I really like the master on my Carvin V3M as I can turn the main volume and gain up to get a nice sustaining metal tone, but keep it at low volumes with the master so I do not annoy any neighbors. I think they tried to answer that with the second input which gives only 1 watt output for grungy sound at low volume. Not sure if you could get much clean sound with that input though.
