Epiphone Sheraton John Lee Hooker

Hello,

I'm very interested on buying a Epiphone Sheraton John Lee Hooker in vintage sunburst, it comes with frequensator and a hardshell case in brown color. I think this guitar model was made in Japan between 2000-2005. The guitar has "The Boogie Man" on the pick guard and John Lee Hooker on the trussrod cover. Does this guitar has the same quality of elitist version? Any idea about the price for this guitar? There is one of this beauties on eBay for 2150 Dls.

Thank you in advance.

Best regards.

I have that exact guitar. It is the Assembled in USA (AIUSA) JLH 1964 Sheraton, and there were two versions (Frequensator & stop bar). The body was made in Japan by Terada, and then shipped to Gibson in Nashville for the installation of all hardware & final assembly. It has a nitro finish. Along with the AIUSA John Lennon Casino models, they are regarded as having the highest quality construction & true to vintage specs of any Epiphone made outside of the United States (including the excellent Elitists, which are also made by Terada, but completely built in Japan).

The one you are considering with pickguard and truss rod lettering, is from the earliest run of this model, most likely from 2000 or 2001. It should also have a blue label with a picture of JLH, and his signature. These items were changed at some point after JLH passed away in 2001. The model was made until 2005.

The AIUSA instruments are highly desireable. I have seen the Sheraton selling generally for $1800 to $2200 (USA), but I recently saw one priced at $2800, and it apparently sold at or near that price.

My advice would be that if the guitar is structurally sound, it is worth a very serious look.

Also note:

Serial numbers on the earliest run of the AIUSA JLH Sheraton were four digits, stamped on the label.

This was later changed to having JLH's original Sheraton number stamped on the label,

along with a hand written serial number, similar to the AIUSA Lennon Casino.

Does this guitar (Sheraton Boogie Man) comes with any documents? You know, COA or something else?

Don't really know for sure.

When I purchased mine used,

no extra paperwork was included.

Best of luck in your pursuit of this guitar!

Mine (seen below) was among the last versions, without the JLH TRC, or Pickguard!

It is, otherwise, identical...in spec's, construction, and Nitro finish. My ONLY

regret, is...that I didn't buy 2 of them, at the time I purchased this one. At that

time, I should have bought the other configuration, with the Frequensator tailpiece,

and in "Natural" finish, as well. But..C'est La Vie!" I'm just glad I got the one

I did. It's been an Awesome guitar, all the way around! [thumbup][biggrin]

By the way, I put the "Imperial" tuner buttons on, myself...it came with the standard

kidney bean variety. I only changed the buttons, not the actual tuners...for my own

(visual) preferences...not due to any problem, with the originals.

Lovely guitar, CB. I like the upgraded tuners, they fit well visually.

Hello bobouz,

Do you have any idea on how many guitars were made?

Mine is 0158 (serial number) and is really beautiful.

Hi Roberto -

It's a limited edition, but I do not know how many were produced.

Mine was made a little bit before yours (#009X),

but they are both from early in the production run.

Enjoy!

Bob
