  1. Visiting Chicago in a couple weeks

    27 September 2017 - 06:38 PM

Hey guys as the title says I'll be in Chicago in a couple weeks. My girlfriend is going for school and I am tagging along and will have a lot of free time during the day while she is with her class.

Chicago Music Exchange is on the list, along with some suggestions from our old friend EVOL of course.

I would love to hear any other suggestions from you guys on places to check out. I'm interested in seeing things related to Chicago blues guys like Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf, Mike Bloomfield, etc so any suggestions about that are welcome, but generally I would like to see anything that you guys think is significant

Also if anyone wants to meet up and grab a beer or check out some guitars or whatever hit me up!

  2. DIY 2.0

    13 July 2017 - 09:59 PM

The original DIY thread has been rendered useless due to the Photobucket fiasco, so it's time for round two.

The main focus of the thread is on guitar related projects, but post whatever you want

  3. Starting a new project

    24 February 2017 - 08:14 PM

I really never would have anticipated this when I bought this ac30 but since it's been so problematic and has a lot of features that I don't want, I just decided to gut the whole thing and rebuild it using the chassis and cabinet.

Here's the gutted chassis, which is going to be great to work with since it has so much space

And here are most of the circuit boards that came out

I'm going to rebuild it using tagstrips in a similar style to the old ac30/4 and ac30/6, but with just the (EF86) normal channel and top boost channel

If anyone has a cool suggestion on what to do with an unused triode in this circuit I'm all ears!

  5. OC Guitar Show

    21 January 2017 - 06:19 PM

I took my old bandmate to the OC guitar show today and it was a blast. We saw lots of great guitars and amps and some deals that were really difficult to pass up.

For you Bonamassa fans, Joe was there with a booth showing some of his vintage Strats. I chatted with him for a minute and he was nice.

I only played a couple guitars because I didn't really want to "need" to spend a couple K. One was an old small body Gibson acoustic for $1,000. It felt nice but Gibson acoustics tend to not sound very good to my ears and this was no exception. Then we were chatting with a guy that we met and I tried out an old white Firebird. Not sure of the year but probly 60s. Through the danelectro/silvertone amp they had there, it sounded freakin amazing and had a perfect neck too. The sound was snappy and clear, almost like a Tele but a more bite. I could have spent all day with that little setup.

There was also a guy with a really nice selection of vintage effects. He had an Ampeg Scrambler, Ludwig Phase II, original Rangemaster, some Superfuzzes and Fuzzrites, etc. I chatted with him for a while and may bring some stuff to trade him tomorrow. Kinda want that Rangemaster

Anyway there were a lot of cool things that I didn't take photos of but I snapped a few for you guys

Saw your post on your visit to Chicago. I used to enjoy Kingston Mines quite a bit. Blues Bar. Haven't been there is quite a while, but might be worth checking out.

John North Wright - TEENAGE, TEENAGE VOLLEYBALLERS. Learn it, live it, love it!
Will check out your new recordings. Cannot wait to hear more of your killer riffing and freak out the squares tone.
Have you heard this OD pedal - Germ by Prescription Electronics? It's a Ge OD + booster. So gritty. I want one, badly.

ProCo is great. I miss them because I had a friend that worked there. He built me a Rat once and I used to get their cables cheap.
Don't worry about the Small Stone knob. I am kind of digging the pink chicken head. It says this pedal is a freak; squares beware!

Brother, been meaning to write and say how much I am digging my Small Stone now. She's so rich and creamy; very different animal than my Phase90. Thanks again.

btw nothing wrong with putting your rack tom in a basket. I like that better than mounting it to the kick drum.

Wow! That is a killer drum set. The quilted finish reminds me of a vintage Gretsch kit. Bet they sound amazing. Glad to see he uses coated heads too (I think they have better tone).

Are there any good schematics for the Klon? I heard the orig builder would put black goop over the components to mask them; not unlike the Harmonic Percolator.

btw I loved the sky blue 808 you made. That knob layout is sexxee.

Pretty sweet, eh? Very different tone wise from a TS9. I run them like this
    1. Fuzz Factory (so it can oscillate)
    2. F-word Overdrive (set for medium dirt)
    3. OD808 (set for very light dirt)
The OD808 is brighter so it freshens up the F-word.

I'm liking the Wee Beaver Fuzz, but for $155 its a lot for a small little pedal.
