  1. And you know the saddle material !!

    Fascinating!

O thanx, , but isn't that just another day at the Board-office.

    Macca with a plastic bridge?

This is really interesting - been writing about it many times.

As I see it, the Texan had plastic bridge, which is now replaced.

Yesterday was recorded with the plast/porcelain combo.

  2. What a great job - I dropped by this video a week ago after spinning through some Ryan Adams stuff. The Songwriters Circle with J. Ian and Finn fx.

Have to say I'm not a big fan of these guitars. They sound somewhat plain or boxy to me, , , well, that might be the indi-point.

However I found a solo a R.A. solo performance where the model he used came across real good. Must have been his #1.

    I'll try to find it.

Meanwhile enjoy this stellar performance with The Cardinals. Adams play no guitar, but we have a Southern J in the picture, , , and a lot of spirit.

  3. Lars and his water based paint with the ability to wipe off excess is making the most sense at this time

A gentle wipe should leave the scratch filled up

Hmmm, , , yes, I mentioned the water-based too and called aquarel.

The times I used that was direct on deeper (top)wood scars, which were able to soak it up. But try your ways.

Say it again : go pen

  4. I hear toothpaste is good for scratches 🤔

Yes, I funnily enough mentioned this for my girlfriend the other day - she has a scratch on her mirror.

    But it's gotta be mint.

  5. Really ?

I thought they would stick out like a sore thumb due to the difference in ink ??

I've tried different methods over the years - primarily on vintage tops and headstocks.

Both cellulose gloss paint and oil paint in the the right blends. Sometimes even aquarel-color and as said felt pen.

This scratch is hyper thin and the risk you'ld fumble a clumsy retouche forward with the brush is present.

Of course I know nothing 'bout your fine-painting-skills, but U see what I mean.

Make the pen step 1 and buff it down. See how it turns out - might reflect differently from different angles in certain lightings, but it's worth a try.

If it doesn't work, go Northwest with a horse hair. You might have a miracle cure there if your hands can handle it.

Let us hear'n'see what happens. Quite exciting procedure ahead. And NO, , , I personally wouldn't let that paper-clip-like ding-thing get away with it.

  6. OOopps, , , that scratch isn't the right kind of scratch.

Have you considered one of those water-resistant ultra thin black felt pens. Easy to steer and very discrete.

    I would start there.

  7. Hi everybody,

Frst post. Owner of a Hummingbird TV. A great guitar, by far my favourite The others are a Lakewood D1 and a Santa Cruz 0028.

I've been reading a lot here lately and have a few questions so I joined the party.

    Renaat

    Re-hi - let's hear them Q's, , , and see some pics.

  8. Hi everyone - a new member. I've just picked up a 64 country western - i absolutely love it, can't stop playing it!

Completely cühl, , , share us a thread below and show some pics. Sounds as well.

Look forward to find out what you got - which saddle concept etc.

    Welcome

  9. Best year for 45's is a huge question and the just as big answer is to be found here on these pages.

I won't go there, it's too expensive, but suggest you zoom in on something from after 1995.

Various waves and years will be different, but you'll find a good J-45 there.

If you dream vintage then travel back to the low side of 1968. But in my perception they don't get better and better the older they are.

Fx I played a couple 1964's with adjustable saddle, which were preferred to my 1959'er.

The model saw light of day in 1942.

Not only those with a old fashioned banner on the headstock, but the entire first decade is considered to be sheer gold.

Good luck ^ the hunt will be fun

  10. The significant (and in my ears corny) word naphtha comes up.

It's in the (lighter) fluid used to remove the pick-guard without hurting the nitrocellulose lacquer.

So why not try that combined with a scalpel - and start the most discrete place. Maybe after testing w. a nail under a cloth soaked in hot water.

The drops inside can be a bit disturbing first time you see them and though they aren't found in all Bozemans, it's a detail in Gibson-land.

Of course you can work the sharp blade there too (think I did 5 years back on my J-45 and recall it as difficult), but else see them as a part of your guitar's nature.

Hey - and let's hear what you find out about that nice little nougat creature.

  11. Hey guys I'm about to buy either a 2014 Quilted Hummingbird or a 2016 hummingbird. I just can't decide, , ,

    Cheers

Welcome mister Murray - a highly exciting choice in front of you. Those two are different !

Let's hear how it turns out. Just set up your own thread. Promise you have an excellent audience waiting here.

  12. Yesterday I encountered a 1978 Mart D-35 on a shop wall. Took it down and it sounded excellent.

An old D-35 rider myself, I asked about the strings and it turned out they were Everly Sessions ph. b. 12-53's.

Of course bought a set for my own 1984'er to try and see where that one would go with the same steel as the splendid 78'er - and to compare.

Anyone knows these strings ? , , , as I remember it they haven't been mentioned on this Board and I wasn't aware of them at all.

    Just curious here.

  13. Bought my first hummingbird in 2007, it was a TV model. Stupidly sold it in 2014, moment of madness, regretted it ever since. Last month a bough a new 2016 hummingbird vintage. As others have mentioned the setup wasn't great, I also had a high fret. Anyway a quick setup by my tech and all's better. Maybe I'm a little low at 6/64th at the 12th, but playing so much better. I'm using Gibson 80/20 bronze. I was using Martin SP 80/20 on my last bird, so might give those a try. Still not sure where I'm at in the baked top.

Hi an' helo - Sounds good.

You should set up a thread with guitar. Speak a little about it - compare it the first one and post a few pictures.

    Look forward

I hadn't seen this before - Eric Church Signature H'Bird.

Fortunately, I can keep repeating the mantra my wife taught me: "You can only play one guitar at a time."

Ha hehi, , , then again - what do wives know ;-)

Ouh, the dark Bird. It has us blabbing about a month ago. We were quite excited.

  15. I've had my Hummingbird for just about a year now. The clarity is really unique in a square shouldered dred. Mine is maple so that might account for some of it?

Incredible back on that maple Bird. Please repost in about 30 years time, , , it'll be even more mesmerizing by then.

Then look at EA'as squares. And notice the necks. They don't end the same place. As I recall it, the old 69 CW (now blonde Bird) has the longer scale, but it isn't that, is it.

From the guards, it simply seems the CW has the hole closer to bridge. Some H-birds from the pre-68 era has #1 while my 64 has the other. Mmmm, , , guess it flik-flaks through time.

@BirdMan - Seeing your Epi on the wall brings up a Q here. How do you split the playing-time between the 2 - what percentage E/G has proven to be reality ? - just curious. .
