  1. Hi Chris, I've never had a Titan, but I may have some info on it...........

  2. A while back, when I checked the way the XLR microphone jack was wired on the Les Paul Personal, I decided to try the same thing on my modified chord, I use to plug the "two wire" unbalanced guitars into the XLR jack of my P.A. I also have a keyboard amp that has a low impedance microphone input. On the XLR jack on the Les Paul Personal, pin (3) is hot, Pins (1),(2) & (G) are all soldered together for the ground connection. It works well. I haven't notice any radio noise that I would sometimes get the way the chord was wired before. I'll have to change all of my XLR to 1/4 female adapters if this ends up being the ticket. Anybody have any other ideas on this??
  3. Thanks for posting it............ Parts of it looks somewhat familiar. I never get tired of seeing neat old footage like that!
  4. Hi Dave, The only way you can play this guitar is with a transformer chord. It is pretty much the same as the Personal & Professional, with the exception of only having one pickup & not having the phase control which requires two pickups. The toggle switch just bypasses the Bass & Treble controls, it sounds to me as if they were on "10" with it in the "Center" position. It only has two positions. Oddly though, it seems to have a much louder output than the Personal or the Professional, it could be due to the hollow body.......... Amplifying flattops was really in it's early beginnings when the Les Paul Jumbo was introduced, I found this article that is attached to put things in a 1969 perspective. Bob Womack.pdf
  5. Here are a few photos of the completed set, I just barely was able to get them all in one shot........ I either need a bigger room or a wide angle lense.
  6. It sounds pretty good, I just put new strings on it yesterday which makes a huge difference. I've been running it through a keyboard amp mostly, I'll have to try it through the LP-12 one of these days. It has a ton of bass with the Rosewood Back & sides, not to mention the Low Impedance pickup picks up a lot more bass than a piezo pickup, (I would assume!). The "In - Out" switch bypasses the Treble & Bass controls. It sound to me as if both controls are at "10" with it in the "In" position. In the next couple weeks, I'm going to try to photograph the entire herd of eight. I don't know if I can get far enough away to get them all in in my house. I might try the panoramic mode in my iPhone if nothing else works.
  7. It arrived today, just about beat me here! Here is a phone pic, more to follow................
  8. I'm in Memphis today. Going to take a tour of the Gibson Factory at noon. Due to the wonder of smart phones, I purchased the final piece of my Low Impedance collection yesterday, a Les Paul Jumbo. More info and pics to follow.........
  9. It's a unique new model, but it only looks like a Les Paul Recording. It's odd that they would duplicate the looks of the pickups & guitar features so closely, but make it high impedance.
  10. Great video Bence! The owner of the new Les Paul Recording II from the Les Paul Forum posted some gut shots on flicker........
  11. Here is one that's reasonable so far............. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Gibson-Bass-cover-New-old-stock-Ripper-Thunderbird-EBO-EB2-/171217757108?pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item27dd5fa3b4
  12. After blogging with an individual that actually bought one & taking another look at Gibson's info on the Les Paul Recording II, It's looking like the pickups might be high impedance and converted to low impedance by the Jensen transformer. The guy that bought it really liked it upon first impression. It doesn't have a "Decade" control & I was sort of surprised for him to say that the pickups were high impedance........ I can't find any reliable source that says any different............... http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/Les-Paul/Gibson-USA/Les-Paul-Recording.aspx
  13. A little more info on the new LPR II guitar.......... http://www.premierguitar.com/blogs/5-daily-news/post/20121-gibson-releases-the-les-paul-recording
  14. It looks like it is still available at other stores, Sweetwater might have had pre-orders for it's allotment? http://www.zzounds.com/item--GIBLPRC http://www.americanmusical.com/Item--i-GIB-LPRC-LIST Also, I was eyeballing this Les Paul Jumbo that sold on eBay yesterday. They are extremely rare, & usually have neck issues I'm told. It was tempting............ http://www.ebay.com/itm/1971-Les-Paul-Gibson-Electric-Jumbo-Acoustic-Guitar-in-Original-Case-Very-Rare/390729102661?_trksid=p2045573.m2102&_trkparms=aid%3D555012%26algo%3DPW.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D298%26meid%3D3706287501196508746%26pid%3D100034%26prg%3D1079%26rk%3D4%26rkt%3D8%26sd%3D331037030120%26
  15. Sweetwater says that the LPR II is no longer available.................What's with that?? http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/LPRCNACH/?utm_source=Google&utm_medium=PPC&utm_campaign=none&utm_term=DSA_-_Product&adpos=1t1&device=c&network=s&gclid=COr7_qaUzrsCFew7MgoddTEAoQ
  16. It mentions this also........ "Low-impedance pickups for direct recording convenience Les Paul paved the way for recording guitars, and his idea of the perfect instrument included low-impedance pickups that could be plugged directly into a mixing console. The Les Paul Recording II features these same unique pickups, with a lo-Z/hi-Z toggle for changing the output impedance. You can connect directly to a microphone preamplifier in lo-Z mode, or connect to your favorite amplifier in hi-Z mode." That switch looks different also. P.S......... According to AMS, it is expected 12/28/13.......... http://www.americanmusical.com/Item--i-GIB-LPRC-LIST
  17. I guess we were talking about two different things. The three position "Tone" switch is missing also. It looks to me that the knobs are "Volume" "Decade" "Volume" "Tone". It's hard to read the "Decade" knob, it might say "Tone" also. Instead of trying to recreate the original, they have created a new model. I wonder what Lester would have said about the changes............... P.S. After a second look at another view, the "Decade" knob is plainly marked "Tone". This could be an early prototype, just to get a few pictures out there, so people start ordering. Using existing knobs....... Time will tell.......
  18. Hi Dave, I didn't notice that........... I was wondering about the Low Z Lift/GRND switch? To reverse polarity? The guitar has two jacks like the version Bence has, it wouldn't need a high/low switch in that case, unless one was a balanced XLR jack?........... It doesn't give that view. Doesn't it look like a standard Les Paul body size? I always liked the separate "Bass" & "Treble" controls, I agree that combining this into a standard "Tone" switch is a step backwards. Being able to adjust the "volume" of each pickup might improve the mix a bit. George
  19. First photos I've seen of the new Les Paul Recording II....... http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/LPRCNACH/?utm_source=Google&utm_medium=PPC&utm_campaign=none&utm_term=DSA_-_Product&adpos=1t1&device=c&network=s&gclid=COr7_qaUzrsCFew7MgoddTEAoQ
  20. Way cool!! A Les Paul Personal just sold for $5,100 + $120.00 shipping on ebay. The Price is creeping up...... http://www.ebay.com/itm/GIBSON-LES-PAUL-PERSONAL-1969-VINTAGE-one-owner-/190988602683?pt=Guitar&hash=item2c77cecd3b#viTabs_0
  21. Mine is a '73 & I'm betting that if you check your pots, yours will end up about there also.................. Serial #1079XX.
  22. It looks like Gibson is about to re-issue the LPR................ I never would have guessed this!! http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/LPRCNACH/
  23. The new adapter came, ($34.00 vs $5.99), & didn't make much difference. It seems that using two different amps with the same guitar is the issue. Switching to different amps & making sure the ground lifts were set the same, seemed to help more than anything else. Also, using an unbalanced setup is never going to be as quiet as a balanced setup I would assume. I'm going to keep an eye out for a "period correct" mic & gooseneck, but for now, everything is working.
  24. Hi Bence, I ordered a high quality "Y" chord with all Switchcraft components. It should be here in about a week. Hopefully that will take care of the noise. George
  25. After a long delay, I decided to buy a few things to test out the elusive mic jack on the Les Paul Personal... The "Y" chord worked well, with the exception of a lot of hum due to it being a cheap chord. I'll have to try to find a higher quality cable. The stereo to mono adapter also worked well with no hum. It utilized the Shure impedance adapter for both the mic and the guitar. The only drawback was, when you turned down the volume on the mic, with the control on the guitar, it also lowered the output of the guitar. The mic also picked up a lot of extra noise, the guitar strap rubbed against it. Also, it reduced the quality of the sound of the guitar due to it picking up vibration. I imagine Lester sat with his guitar, so the strap wouldn't be an issue, and turned the volume down when he was playing. This was a $25.00 mic and again, you get what you pay for. I just bought it because I had to try this odd feature out.
