The Historics are crying out for for a Stage 3 relic job from Pre War Guitar Co....

I am a little confused by the specs on the Gibson site..........I naturally gravitated to the 42 Banner J45, the LG2 Banner and then the 50s J45, but the specs say the Banner 42 J45 has the 1.72 nut.

    Neck

    Nut Material
    Bone
    Nut Width
    1.72" / 43.81mm

Then the LG2 Banner has 1.69:

    Nut Material
    Bone
    Nut Width
    1.69" / 43mm

And then I was keen on the 50s J45 but that has the same neck/nut specs:

    Nut Material
    Bone
    Nut Width
    1.72" / 43.81mm

Sick of the trad new stuff yet?

    Also a NAMM surprise!

I’m thinking a custom order solid wood in gloss black with the blue stuff as binding on the body and neck, ditch the pickup for a Baggs Anthem maybe...

Well, I hope they aren’t doing the old ‘same guitar we are already making with different paint but way better marketing.....”

JT noticed the logo, rosette. I am confused by the neck spec on those listed as mostly being........the same as they had. 1.725.

Can’t see any mention of bracing except a splash of hide glue.

The J45 Standard came back to their website after missing for a minute.

While I am interested in a few announcements above, there doesn’t seem to be much L-00 business. Perhaps they have a ‘32 authentic reissue 12 fret or 14 to come, tuxedo finish perhaps....maybe the announcement will be  like their grand finale for NAMM?

Otherwise, all good, I have to move some to buy some.

    That was nice

That guitar sounds better now that it's broken in😋

    Thanks Philfish!

It has been a lot of working breaking it in, but someone has to do it...

I have a set of Curt Mangan PB strings on my J45 - TV. They are awesome. My last set. They have been on for two weeks, and sound great. My problem is I played for a long time two days back, and didnt realize I opened a cut on my picking hand. I bled on a lot of strings. I have a ton of Martin strings in the strings box, which sound pretty good... so my choices are:

    a) Don't change the strings. They sound great. And your son won't want to play the guitar when he comes home.... Win!

    b) Order new Mangan strings even though you have a dozen other packs in the strings box.

    c)  Put on the Martin SPs and keep doing that till you use them all up.

    d) Take off the strings, package them, and sell them as SalFromChatham Protein-infused MAX strings. $49.99

I'm off to disinfect all my used guitars!

Soak some blood and sweat in to the wood, Sal!

I am trying mediums (Elixir PB) on my Gibson J50 and my Taylor 717e BE..... I have played on lot more over the various Xmas time days off and unknowingly built up some beef, so I am treating the mediums like a sax player moving up to thicker reeds...only possible after plenty of playing! The mediums get weird when getting old and really hard to play, so...new strings more often! Except...the shops I frequent have none in stock...

So a dilemma - back to 12s Lights?

Looked everywhere in Netflix - not there on Australian Netflix yet BUT I found it on Youtube!

Enjoyed the show and then looked up and watched the movie that was mentioned a few times - “Model Shop”......basically, story is a guy driving around LA in an old MG.

Now, that's some tasty blues right there!  Picked up my harp to play along.  You must have capo'ed up to the key of D?

    Thanks!

Yep, tuned down to D with a set of medium strings. Always worked well at blues jams to scare harp players...😬

    Sweet fretboard...

The guitar was at right angles to the sunlight, Murph.

There is a slight streak but it is not as pronounced in real life.

We are not supposed to blame our tools, right? But I don’t know why the Nikon did this.😧

I have never seen a decent brand acoustic at a pawn shop, but years ago, I was playing a Samick dread in another pawn shop while the Boss was buying a floor rug next door. She caught up with me and asked how much the guitar was. “$138”. No kidding, she replied, that’s how much the cheapo rug I bought was! And she bought the guitar for me! Which started a thing in the back of the ancient lizard brain......keep an eye on the pawn shops! But until recent dumping of a number of Gibson acoustics, 2 of which I bought, well,  there has been nothing for years. And now I have 2! Lizard brain is scanning, scanning, scanning.😐

The Samick went to an old friend of the family who intended to learn a few chords to strum along with his grandson and his new guitar. Have not heard much about it lately.

Oh, Elderly will be right on the new rules, 62B, don’t worry about that!

Here is the CITES paragraph from a Folkways sale:

Instruments shipped outside of Canada that are partially constructed of CITES-listed materials such as rosewood or ivory are subject to CITES, and require proper Export Permits. We acquire CITES Permits for all cross-border shipments of such instruments, without exception. The process is simple and straightforward, and does not require anything of the recipient unless an Import Permit is also required by the destination country. CITES permitting turn-around times are generally between 2 to 6 weeks, although there are no guarantees of wait-time length. We levy a small fee for the permitting process.

So, pay for guitar in full and wait indeterminate time for permit, plus delivery and Customs here?

Elderly in US has same arrangement. (they DO have great paperwork to enable easy Customs broking....most times!)

All Gibsons pre 1959 I am interested in have Brazilian fretboards and bridges...

Forget it. If it is not here already somewhere, it ain’t coming.

    Same with new gear.

Don’t care, have a good line on a moron unloading Gibbies at a pawn shop!
