  1. Hello and welcome..

To post images you need to upload them to a picture hosting site and copy the link it gives you directly in to your post (don't use the insert media button).. a lot of us are using https://imgur.com/ if you use that copy the BB Code it gives you.

Meanwhile is this what you are talking about? Fancy.. :)

Theres an article about them here

  2.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a series of lessons? I have been learning scales and songs just to get my fingers strengthened and callused. I am able to "noodle" for quite some time now, but would prefer a direction rather than hopping around on youtube. I typically enjoy classic rock, but also enjoy just about every genre I can think of. Heck, I have been working on some Chuck Berry...

    I simply love this guitar...

Cool :) I like it when we get a happy ending on here..

As for lessons well id find a local teacher... Tell them what you want from it and a good teacher will tailor the lessons to that.. I also saw Fender are offering lessons.. Not tried it though so cant say how good or not it is.

  3. Im not that much of a fan of gold hardware but that turned out pretty good [thumbup]

    Id say that's a keeper :)

Get a Standard one day.. But always keep that studio. I used to have one from the early 90s (my first Gibson), it was also a studio but a wine red one, and also had an ebony board.. I wish id never sold it on now.

  4. My problem is that I am not an expert by any means, I just think the LP's neck fits my hand better. I don't have the trained ear to tell if the pups are great and can't speak of intonation. I just want a guitar that I can grow into and keep around. I am torn on trying a new studio just to see how it feels compared to this, especially if mine is a hodgepodge of parts.

Well you do get some studios with slimmer necks.. The 90s ones usually came with a fat 50s neck..

Donno man.. If you wanna go try a newer one, go for it.. Nothing wrong with gaining that knowledge...

Also if you are new to LPs, check this vid on how to get the best from your controls.

  5. Many thanks for the sketch Dub, thinking along the same lines as I was; make the big vent in the front rather than on the top, so then I can have a handle on top.

I'm not worried about making it 'look Vox'....and (sorry, Surf) never liked those handles. I'm thinking polished wooden finish, perhaps with a posh leather handle...:-k

I may ask Rabs for a hand on this one, but due to economics - lack of ££ - what I should do is....do it myself, it would teach me a lot. And this is the DIY thread!

Well, I am happy to cut them to size for you. But if you have someone who may have some nice bench tools I am quite happy just to send you some wood and he can do it.

And yes I went and checked today and have a couple of those panels left :)

  6. Yes, think you are right.

Am inclined to save money and try building a cab myself. Probably couldn't do any worse than what I've already got.

What wood should I use? I've got some MDF but that's probably not good enough.

The only power tools I have are an electric drill and screwdriver!

I remember my very 1st cab was an old Vox 15" which was built like a brick sh*thouse and incredibly heavy.

Need to look at some 'building a cab'-type vids on Youtube next.... :-k

Man.. I have so much wood.. Im sure I could rustle up something for you if you let me know the dimensions :)

Or you could try my original wood trick.. Find a local joinery company and see if they have any suitable sized offcuts they are willing to sell...

I think I still have about 3-4 of these meranti panels... Its an Asian Mahogany but not a dense one.. I wouldn't use that wood for a neck say.. But a body, yes.. As for how they would be for a cab id need one of our experts to chime in :) (maybe too thick?)

  7. Me too, love chilli and hot peppers. Awhile back though I tried Ghost Peppers and those babies were way too hot. Bought them so had to eat them anyway. I had a bisen burger today with a garden salad.

One of the supermarkets over here got some, I think they were called, Carolina Reapers one of the hottest in chillis in the world... Being a chilli nut I had to try them. I made a curry and literally put a few thin slices of this chilli in.. It was SOOOO hot it was almost (almost mind you) inedible.

I wont be trying them again :)

  8. Wow, that's a good looking guitar Rabs.

    Cool.. Good stuff there :)

And this guitar got shown to the public this weekend. Went down very well too. Almost got sold.. I saw it on the players faces.. The logic vs GAS fight... Haha.. :)

  9. Well walnut 1 is well on the way..

And walnut 2 is not far behind.. I have had a design change though. The binding has come off and now has a bevel around the edge, almost like one of those Firebrand double cuts.. So this is now what it looks like

  10. Rabs those are really coming together man. Did you notice that the carve became kinda asymmetrical around the electronics? The right side is more like a straight line, the left is much more curved. Not to critique of course, just thought if you didn't notice it would be best to change it now before a finish is applied

I ordered some hand tools from stewmac for nut, saddle, and fret work so I'm pretty excited to get started with that. Got a really beautiful Warmoth Strat coming in the mail that I got finished by a forum member so that should be pretty badass when it's all together

Cheers man.. And yes I was aware.. I did the same thing on the Korina build and as I thought, once the knobs are on its all less obvious.. Had to be done like that.. But im ok with it :)

AND I started the oiling.. Ohh wow.. What amazing wood.

  11. Pickups holes....

Necks not quite done yet but not far off either.

    KhWCD2J.jpg

Yet again.. hopefully I will get more time to sort the rest out tomorrow which I want to do the control cavities and finish the necks and headstocks.

  12. Yet again I didn't get too much done... Arrggg.. kind of annoying but not much I can do about it.

Anyway.. The necks are set in good and I got a lot of the neck carving done on both and started measuring for the pickup and bridge positions which hopefully I will get to finish tomorrow.

  13. Played again tonight in Salisbury (UK).

Have now played in 7 separate pubs round that city, booked back in 2 of them next month.

Gig went ok but there are always mistakes, because we just don't play enough to know the tunes backwards.

Will spend nearly all the gig money on petrol...... [sad]

    Best wishes to all.

Still cool to do it.. If we did it just for the money none of us would ever play anywhere..

Years ago when I was in a band I do remember once doing a gig and just about getting enough money for a Maccy Ds each on the way home :)
