  1. Well my only other thought.. Is that since its only one wire that's not connected... Cant you just try each lug?

Get a small alligator clip or some other temporary way of attaching the wire and just do that till you find the right one?

Not very technical but should get you there...

  2. Thanks for the info. I sent a request to Gibson Customer Service for the schematic for it, but no response yet. Still trying to find a way to post a pic without photo bucket (no way to just embed like email?). I wont bother Searcy until later.

    Thanks again.

You can post a pic using the insert media button.. but they only give you like 500k

    Does this help?

  3. I might be interested in the Studio HP... I'll go see if any of my local shops have any in stock.

The double cutaway doesn't seem like it's got even as much access as the HP models? It's got more space for your thumb which I guess might help..

Yeah Studios are great guitars.. Less blingy than a Standard but just as great to play and listen too....

And yes the latest Double Cuts they changed the design a bit so the neck is set a bit deeper.. But you can still get your hand more comfortably on the high end cos theres an extra horn so the wood isn't in your way and you get a better grip.. I have a DC Special from 2005 where the edge of the fretboard is right at the end of the body so it plays great..

Id advise if you see a Double Cut to try it... And if you happen to see an older one definitely try it :)

My one is like this http://www.chubbuckguitars.com/bench/2015/1/22/2003-gibson-les-paul-double-cut-faded-70-lbs-headstock-break

Also a couple of bits of advice... If you don't mind....

First is that when you try them out, try and do it through an amp that's very similar or the same as what you have at home..

And second.. Especially when it comes to Gibsons each guitar is hand finished... So the neck profile and setups are a bit different on every guitar even the same model and year... So if you find one which you like almost everything about but it doesn't quite sound right or play well, ask if they have another of the same model in the back you can try.. Its well worth it.

Well good luck on the hunt and come back and let us know what you end up with (even if its not a Gibson :))

  4. HP Line? That actually looks like it might be what I'm looking for, but I'm only seeing them for $3000+... At that price point I'd just get a guitar custom made.

Depends on what model you look at... The 2016s should be being sold off now cos the 2017s have been out since like October....

Check this page for the 2016 models.. You will see there is two lines.. HP (high performance) which have chrome hardware, robot tuners, shaped neck heel and various wiring option (and dip switches to change the function of the pickups.. The T line (Traditional) are the traditional spec'd guitars Gibson are known for.

Alternatively, if you can find one, see if you can find a 2015 Double Cut.. MUCH better upper fret access.. Or theres always the SG route.

Heres some info on the 2017s (cos Gibson haven't added them to their site yet (for some odd reason?)

  5. Hello.. Theres a couple of things that would help...

First, you don't mention what sort of neck you want... That can help narrow things down a bit... With Gibson they have a few. Basically you have the 60s (slim taper) and 50s necks (thick rounded)... BUT over the last few years theres been some changes. In 2015 the necks had much wider fretboards than the usual Gibson neck which a lot of people don't like.. BUT if you like something like a Jackson you actually may like them, and cos the 2015s were so controversial one can be picked up for a good price.

Then in 2016 and 2017 they went with two lines, one line having a slightly wider neck (not as wide as the 2015s) and robot tuners (the HP line) and the other line (the T line) having more traditional shaped necks and manual tuners.

Then after that you have firebirds, Vs and explorers which tend to have a lightly wider and flatter neck than say on a Les Paul or SG..

And if you also mention the sort of price range you are looking at, that may help too.

  6. That looks so good. Coconut curries are a personal favorite of mine. I tend to load mine up with Thai basil leaves for that extra peppery kick.

    Yeah it is REALLY good..

A friend of mine married a Thai woman... And they lived over here for a few years before moving to Thailand (where he lived for over 10 years)...

And she cooked THE most amazing food, she showed me how to do it and even which curry paste to use which you can get over here called Lobo.. Its so easy to make and you get those great results.. You literally just add water to the paste, brown off what ever meat you are using, then add whatever else you want and let it cook for a while (at least an hour)... I keep it quite simple. Steak chunks with onion and potato, extra birds eye chill (4) rice and some naan bread...

Im having it again tomorrow.. Even though I may go with a massaman curry this time... Hmmmmmmmmmm

  7. Sunday lunch was courtesy of Rabs -

Rolls, bagels, smoked salmon, fish balls (yum), potato salad, cream cheese, some truly tasty chopped liver.

Excellent and thankyou very much indeed Rabs!

    [thumbup]

Always been a favourite Sunday lunch and never disappoints.

Nothing really beats a good roast but bringing that along with me would have been a bit much.. :)

  8. Crisps, I'll. have to remember that. Here there called potato chips. Lay's usually makes those 'wavy' ones as they call it here. Today was leftovers at lunch. Noddle and hamburger casserole and dinner was a turkey sandwich.

Lays is known as Walkers over here.. Same company as far as I know... Love Walkers crisps (actually I like most crisps or chips if you like :))

  9. Could you really eat all that Rabs? Interesting seeing the potato crisps with your meal, we have those as a snack before meals, not usually with them. Do you call them chips or crisps?

We call them crisps.. And well I only usually eat them with burgers.. Its a nice chip substitute when you can be bothered to cook them :)

  10. While we are on this subject I would like to ask two questions that the wife and I have contemplated lately. First, If you know you have to put your pet to sleep do you drop it off and leave before it is carried out or do you stay and be close to your pet while they pass away? Second at our age we have discussed if we want to get another Dog or not? We travel and do not like putting the dog in a kennel plus we are just getting to the point that we do not know if we want to train another or not.

Well I can only say what I think..

But yes, when they did the injection for my cat I was there and stroked him till the end to try and make it as easy for him as possible... Was one of the most heart-breaking moments of my life.. But I had to be there for him and wouldn't have had it any other way..

And secondly... I think that if you lead the sort of lifestyle where you arnt around much, its not really fair to get a dog.. If you have someone the dog can stay with when you are away that's something else, but kennels can really stress a dog out... I remember once we had to put our family dog in a kennel when we went on holiday, when we came back he had a sore on the top of his nose where he was putting it through the cage, never again....... Id love another cat or dog, but im not in the position to in both terms of my lifestyle and at the moment financially... Maybe one day when I retire or something...

  11. I couldn't watch it...

My kitty (even though he was often more like a dog :)), Brutus died a few years back... I still miss him every day and seeing the dog in that vid having trouble walking reminded me of the last few days.... I had to turn it off..... Not that I could complain, he lived to a grand age of 20 and was still playing like a kitten till the last week of his life... but it still hurts :(

This is him one of the cutest, funniest and fluffiest cats I ever knew...

  12. I have a 1976 Les paul standard in Tabacco. Question is, are all these newer guitars as good or any better TONE wise, i don´t care about looks or weight, i want that classic les paul sound!! So apart from the fact that i can´t afford an original Late 50´s or 1960, i´m open to other models/versions of a Les paul. I´ve tried a few CC and i´m not sure what to make of them? I feel my 76 has a ton more sustain and more tone?? A friend told me the best les pauls were built in the early 90´s??? Was wondering if anyone else had tried both a 70´s standard and compaired with other modern les pauls??

We have discussed this quite a lot on here...

And actually if you are comparing a 70s era (Norlin) guitar with a post Henry one then they are quite different guitars in the way they are made (pancake bodies, volutes etc)...

The thing is guitars are all quite unique.. Each one weighs slightly different and because they are hand finished the necks and set up can vary between every guitar..

There are good and bad guitars in every era.. The thing you HAVE to do to find the guitar for you is go and play as many as you can.. Its the only real way to find your "one".... Even the term good and bad is not really right because what may feel good to you someone else may hate.. Its all such a personal thing... You gotta do the work but its worth it in the end when you find that one you click with instantly... (and you will if you try enough of them)

If money isn't an issue for you, maybe look at the Historic collection, I think they are called True Historic now :) They are pretty sweet... I tried the first few CC guitars and I was actually pretty impressed with them (The Beast and The Babe).. I haven't tried any of the True Historic ones yet but id imagine them to be pretty nice.

This will have a slimmer neck

    And a fatter neck
