  1. Well Guys and Gals, I know this is The Gibson Forum, but I bit the "Fender Bullet" and bought a Fender Stratocaster (MIM, Plus Maple Top, Cherry Sunburst).  I would show some pictures, but I can't upload anything bigger than 18.98 kB.

    Here's a link to it: https://www.guitarcenter.com/Fender/Player-Stratocaster-Plus-Top-Maple-Fingerboard-Electric-Guitar-Aged-Cherry-Burst-1500000219405.gc

Still love my Les Paul better, just wanted to have that "Strat. Tone" too.  Taking it in for a set-up this weekend to have the action lowered, fret-ends filed down (something I didn't have to do with my nibbed Les Paul (I love nibs) and maybe adjustments to keep it in tune when I rarely use the tremelo bar.

I got it at the end of December.  For the past several years, I have been asking for Guitar Center Gift Cards for Birthday, Christmas and Father's Day.  They finally added up close enough to where I could get the guitar.  I only had to pay for the $120. hard-shell case and sales tax.  The rest was covered by Gift Cards.

Still getting acclimated to it, maybe the lower action, etc. will get me more enthused.  Getting into some SRV lately.  Very different from my LP.🥰

  2. My short list is easy.  I want a good Fender (Not Squire) Stratocaster (Sorry Gibson guys, me included).  I have a nice Gibson Les Paul, but I want the Strat sound too.  I have my eyes set on a Cherry Sunburst Maple Flame Top, Maple Fret Board, Made in Mexico, Strat.  I have $285. saved up in "Guitar Center" gift cards.  Someday soon, I'll bite the bullet and spend them to cover part of the costs, but then I need to add a hard-shell case, another good strap, maybe strap locks, and of course a good set-up at my favorite luthier, since I would never trust GC to do the set-up.  All of this will probably total over $1,000.

Ok, for all of the "Guitar Center" bashers, I'm not 100% fond of them either, I just started getting GC Gift Cards from my family, a few years ago, and I figure, let them build up with future gifts, Father's Day, Birthday, and Christmas.  We have a local GC and its easy for them to go there and get Gift Cards, so I just asked them to continue doing that until I have more value to cover the costs.  Not greedy, just can't justify spending money on another guitar, that will be used occasionally, since my 1st love is my Les Paul 🥰.  So, since I'm not in too much of a hurry for the Strat, I'll be patient.   They can never figure out what to get me, so I make it easy on them and just ask for GC Gift Cards.  They insist on getting me gifts anyway, that's the way we are in my family, so why not make the best of it. 🤑

If I was using someone else's Credit Card, as suggested by the OP, I'd go for an American Deluxe Strat with the better body contours, better neck cut-away etc.

    Oh

Go to 28.45 for more info on all this.

...I've seen them live and yep they are all on and pretty dammned loud. FOH be damned, its about pushin' air and bleedin' ears!!

Thanks for sharing.  Never understood why people use different gear in the studio vs. live.  Seems to me you'd want to duplicate your signature as much as possible.  I like his choice of strings.  Same ones I have been using for years.

  4. I could understand switching between multiple amps for different tones/settings.  Never understood what daisy chaining does.  Do the individual heads, set at different settings, do something for the tone / volume?  What do you do with the multiple amp footswitches?  Again, stupid questions...

  5. When you see, for example, Multiple Marshall Stacks on stage, are they all being used at the same time, daisy chained?  If so, why?  Do you use switches to switch between amps for different settings?  Are they just for stage sound?  Are they just for looks?  I know this can vary depending on the band/guitarist, just wondering what the logic is.  Especially if one cabinet is mic'd. and other cabinets are not.

  6. In order from Guitar to Amp (2-Pedalboards): Tuner, Acoustic Pedal, Compression Pedal (Used for Lead Boost or heavier distortion), Grunge Pedal (used for heavy distortion like Black Sabbath, Metallica, etc.) MXR EVH Phase, Harmonizer (rarely used but set for a keyboard sound) Cry-Baby Wah, Morley Volume Wah Boost Pedal (never use the Morley wah, sometimes kick on the Boost for a crunchier distortion) I use the volume pedal a lot for volume swells/ Xanadu etc.) , Chorus (almost always on, especially for RUSH), Delay, Flanger, Looper (never use), MXR 6-Band Equalizer (always on).

I also have a Talk Box, but rarely use it because I don't have a PA System to run my Mic through.  And an E-Bow, again rarely used.

Everything through the front of my amp, my amp does not have an FX Loop.

By the way, I just changed my Pick-Up Toggle Switch, on my Les Paul, from Amber to White.  The amber one broke.  It didn't affect my tone at all. 😂
