Don't know where you're located( too many in forums it seems are so anally secretive about their actual location), or what kind of insurance you have, but it might be worth a look into what their coverage is for hospice care.  My wife didn't qualify due to her not being terminal.  But it might not matter to different insurance companies.  And my experience was that many of the "home care" agencies don't really offer daily care, and I was lucky if anyone showed up more than once a week.  Or in some cases, once every two weeks.  The only reliable people were the transport company that would come to take my wife to dialysis and bring her back, and the infusion people who supplied the liquid food.

I don't know who your friend is, or his situation, but my wife, a GM retiree, still had employee health care coverage(Bc/Bs) which covered the cost of all the home care equipment that was needed( hospital bed, Hoyer lift,  infusion pump and food, reclining wheelchair, etc.) And also the cost of the dialysis and transportation.  Maybe he checked with her insurance and they refused to cover the cost, or he didn't bother to check but might have saved himself the thousands in equipment costs.

She’s going down so fast that it probably won’t be long before she passes away. As far as insurance paying I think he’s got the clinic sending a script down to the equipment store, I really don’t know how much they’re paying, I don’t want to ask. He’s had a rough 5 days with thinking about how to proceed with this. They’ve been together for 42 years so it’s very emotional for him. I think he’s getting very little support from their 4 kids, hence why he called me to help. Be a friend anyway you can, just to laugh with a friend is good medicine.

Can you get into Canada right now? If the boarders are open again, I'm going to Canada just to get the hell out of the US for a change of pace.

Weed is legal there I think 🤔

I haven’t gotten real id yet so I’m limited to where I can go.

  3. Went to the capital city with my friend who’s wife has MS/Dementia. He needed help to load a lift for his wife, his boys are busy in the field, so I’m up for a drive and lunch at Dennys. I showed him the wonders of google maps, he’ll be getting rid of that flip phone now, Anyway her insurance quit paying for her stay at the hospital and he either takes care of her or shells out 300.00 a day which he and many others don’t have. So he purchased thousands  worth of equipment today at the rehab store and he’ll take care of her. Now you see why I don’t want to burden Karen. You’re going to have a funeral sooner or later, might as well be sooner and save 110K a year.

It is a horrendous nightmarish disease.

My dad was diagnosed about 20 years ago.   He was being treated for anemia, and the docs were not quite sure if it was the anemia that caused his condition or the treatments for the blood disorder.

this insidious thing just destroyed one of the brightest most fearless men I've ever known.

I hate this disease...  and my heart goes out to anyone who's family member has it.

I’d almost consider suicide so as not to burden my wife with having to deal with me if I get it. I’ve seen too many of my older friends fade away.

That's what I believe also.  My last years at the Union Pacific Railroad, I developed headaches, dizziness,  Nausea and became very sick. I kept going to the UP doctors and they kept saying nothing was wrong with me & I was just wasting their time.  "Go back to work." Then it got so bad that I missed 4 days of work as I couldn't even raise myself in bed. Finally, Deb called a doctor that went to our church so it was way off course from whom my insurance would cover. He ordered an MRI and the results were, I had a brain tumor and it was cancer also. To make a long story short,  The tumor, was the type that only small children got.  I was the first adult on record to get this type.  One of my uncles in California also died from a brain tumor.  Cancer also runs in our family line. I've been cancer free now for 34 years.

Glad you beat it, what a ride.

  6. I have a classmate and friend who is suffering from MS related dementia, very sad situation.

So I’ve been studying up about things that can cause early dementia, and am surprised at a  couple things I found so far.

Too much Television, if you’re watching more than 3.5 hours a day you can experience cognitive decline in your middle years.

Anxiety and Depression, if left untreated can cause lesions on the brain.

Vasectomy, can cause early dementia, prostate cancer and other illnesses.

But by playing board games, video games, guitar, reading or anything that challenges the mind you can keep your brain 🧠 healthy.

Any thoughts on this? It’s a very important topic, I’m sure all of us know someone with a dementia problem. I’d rather have a painful disease then get it.

Hi! I just got my dream VOS Les Paul '57 Black Beauty from the my local dealer after ordering it and having it on hold while I saved up a good chunk of the $9K it cost so I could put the rest on financing with them and bring my baby home.. But now I noticed the Truss Rod cap is not centered! 😲.. I mean for $9K I expect perfection or at least a nicely centered truss rod. I didn't notice it at the store when I came in to do an inspection but now I can't stop looking at it.. It's all I notice.. 😔 Everything else is amazing (besides the layer of goop they now leave on the VOS guitars apparently)

What do you all think? Am I being unreasonable? What would you do?

You could slot the bottom hole of the trc and maybe get a little better. Otherwise you paid a lot of coin for a guitar that looks like I worked on it.

Worked in the yard, tended the garden, and put down some sod (from a local nursery) over where the dogs had run things thin.

    Just turned on the sprinkler.
Cracked a cold beer, and now I have some cod (marinating in butter, garlic, and black pepper ) for supper here in a bit.
I'm thinking Brussels sprouts on the side with a squeeze of lemon juice.

    😐

That helps a lot. But you probably get that walking around all over your farm land doing chores?

I try to walk 25 minutes a day plus chores,a lot of times I push my magnet on wheels and pick up 120 years of nails and what not around here.

Sorry to hear that. The doctor told me I was borderline and should drop weight. So I lost 35 pounds in 6 weeks. Most of it was all the muscle from working out so long. Next visit, I was fine. I am not so sure about trusting doctors anymore.

I’m down 10 lbs now but stuck at 230lbs for a couple weeks. Need to increase my walks I guess.

The Midway was in Yokosuka when I was there. My ship was in the Midway Battle Group - Commander Destroyer Squadron 15. I was there from '89 - '91.

He might have been there then. Hard to say,he was in the Philippines and Hawaii also, went to the pentagon in about 92 or 93.

I always sing this to myself when I hear this BJ Jovi classic.

    John's

    Shot through the heart
    And you're to blame
Darlin', you give love a bad name

    Mine

    Bite on my balls
    And you're to blame
Darlin', you give me a sharp pain

I would have been happy if they kept me stoned! I was in intensive care for a week after my surgery and I was screaming out in pain most of the time. It would come and leave,  The doctor walked in and flipped on the lights  and that would set off the pain.

Luckily you were tough enough to make it. Thank God!
