Silverbursted Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 I figured this would be a good place to start. I just purchased a new LP Standard Limited Edition Silverburst from Guitar Center in Scottsdale. Besides the fact that this it is awesome, I am curious about the serial number. The guitar is obviously a Guitar Center exclusive based on the GC 558 serial number, but I would like to find out as much information I can it. With that being said, is there any resource out there that can de-code the serial number (i.e. born on date and location) like the normal gibson serial number convention?
scozz Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 Try this. http://www.guitardaterproject.org/gibson.aspx
Silverbursted Posted February 17, 2008 Author Posted February 17, 2008 Not recognized by the sight, but thanks for your response.
Tim Plains Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 If you have a silverburst, I want to see pics!

Tim Plains Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 Nice guitar! I absolutely love silverbursts! I almost bought that one too - guitar of the week 16 - but went with a desertburst Standard at the last minute...no point in having two silverbursts, right? Regarding your serial number, I have no idea why it doesn't have a regular number. GC 558 is stamped on the back of the head?? I bought a SG, which was also a guitar of the week, and it has a typical nine digit serial number.
Silverbursted Posted February 17, 2008 Author Posted February 17, 2008 Yup, I don't have any reason to think this is anything but an original Gibson since I bought it new from Guitar Center. It is advertised on GC website under the Pro gear tab.
Tim Plains Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 Hey, I'm not calling it a fake - I just found the serial number odd...but then again, Gibson does what it wants, right?
Silverbursted Posted February 17, 2008 Author Posted February 17, 2008 No worries, I did not think you were. I appreciate you feedback.
Kollaps Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 No worries bro, I've been trying to figure out the same thing with mine: GC529. At least we're in the same boat. :)
Flight959 Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 That LP is clearly genuine! NICE Axe too............. Regards
GuitarJunkie Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Regarding your serial number' date=' I have no idea why it doesn't have a regular number. GC 558 is stamped on the back of the head?? I bought a SG, which was also a guitar of the week, and it has a typical nine digit serial number.[/quote'] His Silverburst isn't one of the GOWs, it's a Guitar Center limited edition. The GOW ones have a regular serial number just like your SG.
Silverbursted Posted February 18, 2008 Author Posted February 18, 2008 Cool. I believe the GOW Silverburst's are Customs and this is a Standard. Doesn't really matter to me, I did not buy it as a collectors item, but rather because it is a dream come true to own a real Les Paul. Thanks everyone for their input.
