Stair step headstock ES 250

Yes, but J55, and J100, not SJ. I have a 39 J55 that came from a collector who also had an ES250 and a J100. He sold all three. The ES250 was the most valuable. I know the J55 was stair step in 1939 only. Not sure about the other two, but I always thought that was a 39 only feature. Books I have read on the subject claim it went away first to cut cost. 1940 J55 had no stair step but had the mustache bridge and 1941 went to the bat wing bridge. The J100 this collector owned had a stair step headstock but it had a batwing bridge. He admitted it had been modified at some point.

I've heard the same thing, and haven't seen any evidence that would contradict that.

The ES-250 was sort of an experimental model, and was constantly evolving and changing. Mine was a 1940 model, and did not have a stair-step head.
