moosesyr
I just got some pump polish in the package with the flannel cloth. Why does it smell like turpentine? Is that normal? Will it work on other guitar brand finishes? Thanks. Mike
wizardb
I have used Gibson pump polish for many years. Spray it on the cloth lightly and then wipe down the guitar. I like it better than the Martin Polish.

nick_s
The smell I agree with, very solventy. That said, it works a charm. I use mine on all guitars to great effect.
6string
I love Gibson Pump Polish and use it on all my nitro finished instruments. It says it has a trace a amount of lacquer in it to nourish and seal the finish. For my poly finished guitars I use something without lacquer in it, like Dunlop #65. Aster1
Most all the pump polishes claim to have "petroleum distillates" as a main ingredient. I would have to reckon that with the Gibson's being Nitro that they would formulate a polish that would be OKAY with Nitro. If it works on Nitro, it should be fine to use on Poly for sure. Remember, you clean a nitro or Conversion Varnish (Ric's) finish with Naptha and that REALLY smells like a solvent, cuz it is (aka lighter fluid) That's what I think anywho. Jon S.
I've used Gibson polish on all my guitars(nitro and poly) for close to 20 years, and it works like a charm
