Yes, it's just that the posts are rising vertically from the curved top, there's going to be a bit of a gap on the outer edge. My Sheraton is the same. Some higher end guitars have that rim above the thread recessed into the top.

 

What's the guitar?

What happens on an archtop while measuring for the tailpiece, is that the width measurement is taken off the tailpiece.

When that measurement is transferred to the guitar, the holes will be the same width apart as the post measurements of the tailpiece.

Because of the arch, this will look like it does. Not much you can do about it after the fact.
