jimmi accardi
I believe the Casino came with 10-46s. I usually like these gauges: .011 .013 .020 W .030 .042 .052 Can I just change to these gauges and perhaps lower the bridge a bit or must I have it set up by a luthier with a neck adjustment? flyingarmadillo
You'll probably need to adjust the neck. But a bigger problem will be that the nut slots will have to be enlarged and the intonation will need to be adjusted. If you don't think you can do it yourself, get a luthier to do it. jimmi accardi
Thanks. I don't adjust the neck myself. Intonation is easy. I guess the luthier will be getting a visit then.

You should be able to go up a guage without causing any problems. Just swap the strings and see what happens.
jimmi accardi
Well, now I want to but I'm concerned about the strings not fitting correctly into the nut slots (I didn't even think of that). Is that more than likely going to be an issue? If so then I'll take it to a luthier. Thanks for the replies.

The only concern I would have would be the wound G nut slot. If it was me I would try it and see what, if any, issues arise and go from there. Good luck. Thanks for the replies. using a section of the larger string like a round-file, run it up & down in the corresponding nut slot.....if it drags or catches, run it some more, if not, good to go. right before stringing add graphite (pencil lead dust is fine) or some brand of "nut sauce/string ease/etc. to assure a bind free nut..... the neck may need adjusting, but may not...i'd try it 1st. jimmi accardi
Cool! I'll give it a try.
jimmi accardi
I did it. It was the 2 low strings that were too fat to fit into the nut slots. Thanks for the tip. I used the strings to file the slots and put some graphite in. Re-intonated and now it feels like a real guitar with the heavier strings! The neck seems fine so far also. Wound G string makes any guitar sound better when it comes to in-tune sounding chords.
jimmi accardi
By the way, I found a set with the exact gauges I mentioned above. Dean Markley Medium gauge. Comes with both Wound and Un-Wound G string. These sound great on the Casino!
