Jessica
I have some doubts about whether this is a real standard or deluxe model, even though it does say standard on the headstock.
L5Larry
I don't remember the Standard being available in Goldtop in 1976, But the serial number decal and TRC font are '76 Standard correct, as are others things such as the "Nashville" bridge, maple neck, etc. Obviously the tuning machines have been changed, and most likely the control knobs. The case is also period correct. I've seen many 75/76 factory "Standards" with "Deluxe" SN decals (I own one), but I've never seen a "Deluxe" with a "Standard" SN decal. Therefore I have no reason to doubt that this guitar left the factory as a "Standard", but as a Goldtop Standard... I'm not sure.
Jessica
Yes, i have the original knobs, the machine heads i know are not original. I thought the same - i can't find that the standard was available in goldtop.
sparquelito
Reading directly from Fjestad's Blue Book (14th Edition, sorry, not the latest one), a 1976 Gibson Les Paul Standard was indeed offered in the gold-top. By all visible evidence, it's a Standard.
stein
There isn't a lot of detail in the picks to show the finish to really judge it, but another clue this is likely origonal is the clear finish on the rest of the guitar, which is proper for a Gold-top of this time. Jessica
So anyone want to weigh in on what it's worth?? :)
L5Larry
Les Paul Standards from this era generally sell for about $2000. I have my '75 insured for $2500.
Mick Hayes
Zombie Thread! I had one of these years ago and it came up in my FB memories. Bunch of guys at shows would accuse me of “converting a deluxe” but, I would bet them a drink before showing them the back of the headstock. Somebody changed the pickups obviously but, they were late model Dimarzio’s nonetheless! Defiantly a strange bird to say the least!
