dougg330 Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 OK, so I have a '66 ES-330 that I love. Beautiful sunburst - with the finish in great shape. Repaired headstock crack and replacement pickups (lovely sounding Lindy Fralins), so it's player grade for sure. Recently got a '70-'72 ES-335 in excellent, all original condition, which I am absolutely loving. Very different look, sound, and feel from the 330, and a great complement to it. Now I have found another '66 ES-330 for sale near me that is all original except for replacement tuners, and I'm hot to buy it. Will it give me anything I don't already have? Darker sunburst, frets are worn down fairly low, but the action is great and it plays like butter. This one is a darker sunburst, an has the original Gib P-90s. Is it stupid to purchase another 330 just like the one I already have - or will the little variances between guitars make it worth my while? Love to hear some opinions from the group. Thx
OldCowboy Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 You're hooked. Buy it reasonably if possible, but by all means BUY it - elsewise you'll regret letting it slip away and wind up paying too much for the next one. You can always sell it if it doesn't treat you right. We're mostly hopeless addicts around here, so discouraging you doesn't fit our profile. Lol
dougg330 Posted July 1, 2016 Author Posted July 1, 2016 Old Cowboy, you are a wise cowboy. You're right - I can always sell it if it doesn't work out... But if I pass on it, I'll always regret not having the chance. Stay tuned...
wintermoon Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 buy it and sell the one w/replaced pickups and repaired headstock. then you'll have a P-90 guitar and a humbucker guitar.
dougg330 Posted July 2, 2016 Author Posted July 2, 2016 I decided to buy it. Then decided to be prudent and not buy it. Then I bought. So this is what is gracing my guitar room now: two 1966 330s and a '70-'72 335. Loving them all. <a href="http://s619.photobucket.com/user/dougg330/media/My%20330s.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i619.photobucket.com/albums/tt277/dougg330/My%20330s.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo My 330s.jpg"/></a> Â <a href="http://s619.photobucket.com/user/dougg330/media/335.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i619.photobucket.com/albums/tt277/dougg330/335.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 335.jpg"/></a>

dougg330 Posted July 2, 2016 Author Posted July 2, 2016 Thanks for your help, capmaster. I couldn't seem to figure how to grt the pix to stick this time. Need to be re-trained. Appreciate it!
dougg330 Posted July 2, 2016 Author Posted July 2, 2016 Update: the seller found the box where the original (warped) pickguard and original tuners were stored, so I'll be putting those back on soon.

OldCowboy Posted July 3, 2016 Posted July 3, 2016 You have done well! Welcome to the depths and corresponding joys of addiction!
G Mac Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 Such beautiful guitars!! I have a '66 sunburst also but without the pickguard. I LOVE ES-330's! They're sooo underrated! I think you have done the right thing by buying the dark one! Congratulations and may your addiction remain strong!
Cam in alberta Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 I recall a thread about flattening warped pick guards on Mylespaul forum. Not trying to lure folks over there, just trying help with a vintage guitar
