TommyK
My wife and I have been invited to a formal dinner (evening). It is a Military affair. The officers wear waist coats, cords medals and such. These officers are long serving soldiers. This is a University level ROTC group. As such, this affair is partially a learning experience for the recuits. My wife and I are civilians. I will be wearing a black tuxedo coat, slacks and white tuxedo shirt with black bow tie. Would it be appropriate to place a US flag lapel pin on the lapel? I would not hesitate if it were a sport coat, but this is a tux and I seldom wear a tuxedo. Would a red vest be too much? or dark red bow tie?
Space Pup
I've never been a fan of wearing a vest with a tuxedo, but a dark red or maroon tie and cumberbun may work. I've never seen a pin worn on a tuxedo either, how about a Carnation with a red, white, and blue ribbon wraped around it.
ksdaddy
What do you say to a guitar player in a three piece suit? "Will the defendant please rise?"
albertjohn
My 2d. Of it were me, I'd leave the pin. And that's not because I'm not American, but because it looks a bit out of place. What do you mean by vest? Shirt? If so, I always wear a white shirt. Agree with Spacepup on the tie and cumerbun. Carnations are for weddings? How about a stars and stripes silk handerchief?
