Rore Posted December 11, 2019 Share Posted December 11, 2019 Hello Everyone, Hopefully, I'm in the "Introduce Yourself" forum; the site is a little confusing, but maybe I clicked on the right button. I'm Rore, in my early 70's, living in North Alabama. I consider myself somewhere between a beginner and an intermediate, but I've been playing for many years off and on. I've played in a neighborhood garage band with music ranging from folk, to country, to rock and roll, and I played with a gospel group for a while. I've been basically a strummer, but hit a few licks from time to time, songs like Dust in the Wind for example. I have a Gibson 335 electric, a Taylor 614 acoustical/electric, a Martin DM acoustical/electric, and a Martin HD- 28, and love them all. There's nothing that sounds as pretty as a well tuned guitar in my humble opinion. I'm not sure what kind of information you folks usually provide in the introduction, but I'll say I'm happy to find the site and may have some questions from time to time, The only thing on my mind right now is a ranking of Epiphone Les Paul guitars - There are so many that I'm actually confused on which ones are the best and why they are considered the best, and I know better than to just use price to rank them. I have an Epi Les Paul Standard Plus Top Pro that I dearly love! They go for about $550 +/- without a case. A case is about another $100 +/- for an Epiphone branded case. I haven't really tried all of the numerous LP models but, I can vouch for the quality of mine. I gig with it fairly regularly and have had no major problems that a squirt of DeOxit couldn't fix. My advice: Don't get too hung up on what is "best" and why etc. There's just too many models, with too much overlap. it's confusing and the "best" is going to be subject to personal opinions. Instead; Decide how much of a budget you are able to afford, do some online window shopping, get a few ideas, then come back here (go to the Epiphone Guitar Sub Forum) and post some of your findings there. With out some definitive ideas on what you're interested in and have the money for, it's hard to point one in the right direction. The Standards are probably the more popular choices in the Les Paul line up since they have similar looks and components to the Gibson Counter parts. There are some more elaborate models out there, (some of the signature models and limited runs for example) for the most part have the Standard as the starting point., but with different cosmetics/electronics, etc. If you can avoid the bolt on neck versions, definitely do that.
