jdgm
The death has been announced of Jimmy Cobb, jazz drummer, at the age of 91. Cobb was the drummer on "Kind Of Blue", the definitive modal jazz album by Miles Davis recorded in 1959. He also played on many other albums by Davis, John Coltrane (on Prestige), some truly classic Wes Montgomery records ('Boss Guitar', 'Full House', 'Smokin' At The Half-Note'), Cannonball Adderley, and he was part of the Wynton Kelly Trio with Paul Chambers on bass. His most famous stroke is heard at approx 1.30 into "So What" , the 1st track on "Kind Of Blue", when he hits the crash/ride cymbal as Miles Davis starts his solo. Cited by many as one of the quintessential, pure jazz moments: R.I.P. Mr Cobb. Edited May 26, 2020 by jdgm
