Californiaman
I've asked this before but I want to be sure. One more time please. I've been looking at the Bogner Shiva. There are three versions. What's the difference between the: EL34 6L6 KT88 Thanks
Californiaman
Ok, so I get the EL34 vs the 6L6. I got this from the Bogner Websight: EL34 models are 80 watts and have a nice throaty growl with aggressive English-style midrange to punch thru the mix. 6L6 models are 60 watts and have a touch more lowend/highend extension that's more American-style. So how about the KT88?
Silverbursted
There is a lot of information scattered around the Internets. You can use the Google, or try this site as a start. The Tube Store Hope this helps, this can certainly be a very confusing subject.
Ronnie Robinson
EL34s think British overdrive like Marshall and Orange
deepblue
EL34s think British overdrive like Marshall and Orange Actually when I think EL34 I think American Metal types of sounds. To me, 6V6 is the British tone. My Orange has four 6V6' tubes. They break up nicely without sounding too harsh. In my opinion they sound more musical. surfpup
So how about the KT88? Somewhere in between - it's a big bottle. Think a little more HiWatt or Marshall Major - cleaner with less mids than the EL34 and very punchy (less compression in other words).
