Hey James--

Welcome to the forum!

That guitar is an ES-175. Here is a link to some information: click here. It is a great guitar, but it is a hollow-body so it might be a bit of a challenge to use for hard rock if it is your first guitar. Hollow-bodies are prone to feedback at high volumes (and sometimes even at moderate volumes). Still, many great rockers have used guitars like this. I would suggest you try one out before you buy it. It is almost as big as a smaller acoustic guitar, and so some people used to solidbodies find this sort of body shape hard to play. I think this sort of guitar can be a lot of fun, though.

Ignatius is right . My Casino has feedback but the great thing is. un-plugged it sound great and is easier

for me to play that a full size acoustic. Just please don't ask him about a 339. Just kidding!

Welcome to the forum and post your pics

I think guitar shows are the best way to demo an instrument. lots of different brands in one spot and no

pressure to buy anything. as a matter of fact I rarely see anyone buying anything except parts

Is it available for white color as well?

ps* my first was les paul custom ( white one )

I want this one cause I could play unplug with no amp ^^"

Hey again, James--

If that page on the Gibson site is current, then no, it is not available in white. Come to think of it, the picture you posted is the first one that I have seen in white. I did a quick browse over at gbase.com (an online site where lots of smaller dealers post their guitar inventory), and I didn't see a single white ES-175. My guess is that the pictured guitar is either a custom job, a limited run color done by Gibson at some time in the past, or a refinished guitar. In any of those cases, that means the guitar is going to cost a lot more and be very hard to find. In general, once people find archtops that they like, they don't sell them.

As far as you p.s., yes, you can play these guitars acoustically! Just keep in mind that when they are new, they tend to be tight and need a lot of playing in to get the full sound out of them; and more importantly, because the bodies are made from laminate rather than hardwood, they will never sound as good as a regular acoustic guitar. They can get very close, but they still don't resonate in the same way. In fact, this is why they ARE made from laminate in the first place: that resonance of hardwood adds to feedback problems. People today think laminate is a new aspect of cheap guitars, but some hollow-body electrics have been made of laminates since at least the 1940s to help cut down on feedback. Cheap guitars use cheap laminate, and good guitars (like the ES-175 or the ES-335) will use good laminate.

Good luck on the search, and keep us posted!

That guitar may be an L-4. I've seen the anniversary model in white and almost bought one on Ebay. The hardware on the one I saw was gold' date=' though, so of course, I'm not positive about this one.[/quote']

It could be, lkmuller, but then I think we have to assume that the tailpiece and bridge on the pictured one were replaced with lower-bling versions, which seems unlikely. Or was the anniversary model less appointed that the L-4 CES that is currently available?

Good possibility to explore, though.

howdy,

I've been a lurker here for a while (greetings everyone!) and this one prompted me to post...

I'm a huge Izzy fan from way back... loved gnr before they got signed and blew up.

Always liked Izzy's playing, much more than Slash. I'm 99% sure this is a late-80's ES-175.

You can hear / see it on the GNR '88 Ritz video. Just go to youtube and check it out.

Listen to what's holding it all together behind Slash's lead playing... LOVE the ES-175.

I've got a black 1991 model. It's very similar to Izzy's. I've gone completely over the top

with mine... sound block, etc. I can share pics / tips if you'd like.

hey, no problem. I've become an ES junkie myself lately.

love to share info.

don't overlook the ES-135's. I use them for shows / live / rehearsals

and they are really great to play. you can play 'em at any volume

and get some great tones out of them. I've seen Izzy with a black one

of those too.

anyway, I've gotta run. good luck with your search. the white ones

rarely ever come up. It took me quite a few months to find the black ES-175
