bubba_leon
Hello all, I recently converted my Blues Jr. (8ohms) into a head, and I wired my 2x12 in series to 16 ohms. (2 8ohms 12" speakers). My question is is there any danger to the amp running it into a 16 ohm cab? My understanding is that its better to run the amp lower than the speakers impedance. But I'm not 100% sure. Rocky4
GOOD GOD.......DON'T DO IT!!!!!! actually, I don't have a clue if it's good or bad
Tim Plains
I don't know first hand but from what I've read, yes, it is bad for the amp if you do that.
Riffster
Not if you are going higher on the impedance of the speaker. Tone suffers though, the output transformer does not find the resistance needed. In my experience the tone gets a little thin or anemic. If you plugged a 4ohm speaker then it would be too much resistance and you would go through your power tubes quick and possibly burn the output transformer. Riffster
Yea the dynamics of the amp change.
80LPC
A valve / tube amp should have matching impedance with the cab, otherwise some of the power is reflected back to the amp. It will happen either side of the correct impedance.

The Mick
why didn't you run your two 8 ohm speakers in parallel so they are still 8 ohms?
Riverside
My question is is there any danger to the amp running it into a 16 ohm cab? Not likely that you'll hurt the amp.
