Running 8 ohm amp into 16 ohm cab

Hello all,

I recently converted my Blues Jr. (8ohms) into a head, and I wired my 2x12 in series to 16 ohms. (2 8ohms 12" speakers).

My question is is there any danger to the amp running it into a 16 ohm cab?

My understanding is that its better to run the amp lower than the speakers impedance. But I'm not 100% sure.

Not if you are going higher on the impedance of the speaker.

Tone suffers though, the output transformer does not find the resistance needed. In my experience the tone gets a little thin or anemic.

If you plugged a 4ohm speaker then it would be too much resistance and you would go through your power tubes quick and possibly burn the output transformer.
