jaxson50
I've been a Byrd watcher for years, the man was a master;
milod
I've been sayin' the same for years. His combination of "jazz" and "classical" picking made a big impact on my pickin'. I wish I could claim some degree of equalivalence, but it's mostly that "you can play what you want fingerstyle, on any guitar you want." m
DeVeeWee
Byrd is 'hors categorie' and milod states that right, that style is so unique. I once had the privilege to see and hear the 'Great guitars': Barney Kessel, Herb Ellis and Charlie Byrd. They played nothing than jazz standards, and Byrd's sound of his classical guitar was an excellent compensation for the 2 other ES-players! Memorable concert! (I still have the flyer)
Notes_Norton
+1 on the Byrd's genius and musicality. His performance with Stan Getz on the "Jazz Samba" LP was my first introduction to his mastery, and is still one of my all-time favorite albums. The two worked together as if they had been playing with each other for years. Notes ?
grampa
Sweet. Byrd is one of the first solo guitarists I listened to other than the classical guys back in the 60's when I was starting to play.
